February 28, 2021 Principal Message

Hello Patriot Families!

We had a great week with a few days of sunshine!  This week we welcome March and Cohort 1.  Please note that Wednesday is an Asynchronous Learning Day for all students.  Here are this week’s updates:

Cafeteria Expectations:  I’ve had two parents reach out to me regarding the change in behavior expectations in our cafeteria.  Since we returned in February, there is no longer talking allowed (even with masks) in the cafeteria since not all students are finished eating at the same time.  This change was made in accordance with WCPSS guidelines that were provided to schools and families on February 8:   We have made efforts to make this time less monotonous by playing music, allowing device use during a portion of the period, and following up with outside activities when the weather allows teams to do so.  We will amend our practices when guidelines are updated.  Thank you for your support as we strive to make sure that all students are safe from the spread of Covid during lunch.

Carpool:  Carpool moved much more smoothly last week!  Thank you for your help.  We would encourage families to utilize bus transportation if they have signed up.  Doing so greatly reduces the traffic through our parking lot and the neighboring elementary school.  Thanks for your consideration.

Cohort Rotation for Plan B:   Next 3 weeks' schedule.   We welcome COHORT 1 this week.

Help Wanted:  We need parents to serve in leadership roles in the PTA for 2021-2022.  If you’re interested - or even curious - please contact the current PTA board at with any questions.  Available positions are listed on the website you to those who have stepped up to fill the major positions so that we can access PTA funds in 2020-2021!

Single Subject Acceleration (SSA):  The nomination window for 2021 SSA is open through March 22. SSA is the process to skip the next middle school reading or math course by showing mastery of the content. Detailed information is found in the SSA video posted in your student's ELA and Math Google Classrooms.  Contact Ms. Worley at with any questions.

Track Changes for 2021-2022:  While we continue to wait on a decision regarding Virtual Academy and its impact on staffing, we have begun assigning tracks to families who were not assigned one in 2020-2021.  Once we have completed that process, we will make an announcement about track change requests for 2021-2022.   That announcement may be made as early as this coming week.  There is no need to contact the school about track assignments at this time.
