February 12, 2021 Principal Message

Hello Patriot Families!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you!  I hope that you have found some creative ways to let loved ones know that you care.  We’ve had a great week highlighted by the announcement that Jennifer Pride, one of our 8th grade ELA teachers, has been named the WCPSS Teacher of the Year!  We are so excited and proud that she has been recognized for the great work that she does every day with Heritage Middle students.   What an incredible honor!

Here are this week’s updates:

8th Grade Parents:   Plan on attending the "HMS High School on the Horizon" Virtual Event on Monday, February 15th, at either 11:30am or 6:00pm.  You will learn about WCPSS graduation requirements, general high school information, how your 8th grader will register for high school, and college & career information for your future high schooler.   You will need to log into this live stream event using your child's Wake ID.  HERE is a link to the Live Stream events.  If you are unable to attend either event- the presentation will be posted on Mrs. Mccorquodale's website found HERE

8th Grade Parents:  Career and Technical Education will be celebrating CTE Month by hosting Career Connections 2021 on Wednesday, February 24, for students grades 8-12.  The virtual event using Booth Central will kick-off at 9:00 a.m. with a wide selection of 30-minute career readiness workshops hosted by WCPSS Career Development Coordinators.  From 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., students will have the opportunity to meet virtually with industry professionals during an Industry Fair showcasing the 16 Career Clusters.  Heritage Middle School 8th grade students will be participating in this event in lieu of an asynchronous assignment during this timeframe.  Students should have registered to receive an email so they can choose which sessions they would like to attend and which presenters they would like to meet.  This virtual conference will take the place of the face-to-face career fair that students usually participate in each year.

New to Plan B?:  Please familiarize yourself with these protocols:

Accountability and Health Protocols Form:  Students who are returning to campus must complete the Student Accountability and Health Protocols form. This document tells families that students must strictly follow our required health protocols when on our campuses. It also includes possible consequences for non-compliance. If you have already submitted the acknowledgement form to your school, you do not need to do it again. Learn more.

Transportation Reminders:  Bus riders are required to submit a one-time attestation

form stating that they will abide by all health and safety protocols. Forms can be found at If you have already successfully submitted this form, you do not

need to submit it again. We ask that students follow all safety guidelines, including

wearing a face covering the entire time they are on the bus. Bus route information can be found at Learn more.
