February 5, 2021 Principal Message

Hello Patriot Families!

The School Board announced Tuesday that Plan B students will begin rotating into the building on February 15 beginning with Cohort 2.  We look forward to seeing students “live and in person” again.   Virtual Academy students continue to “rock on” without the concerns of being in or out of the building.  Here are this week’s updates:

8th Grade Parents:   The time has arrived to begin the High School registration process!  Please go to Mrs. McCorquodale's website found HERE.  She will be communicating to you via her website as well as presenting information to your child via their CORE classrooms.  The date for the parent informational session, titled "High School on the Horizon," will be February 15 at 11:30am and 6:00pm via Livestream.  More details will be coming. In the meantime, feel free to look over items she has already posted - specifically, the "Open House/Curriculum Fair" flyers for Heritage, Rolesville, Wakefield and Wake Forest High Schools and the "Moving on Up" presentation for your child. Contact Mrs. McCorquodale with any questions after viewing her website.

High School Open House Dates:

Wakefield- Feb 3rd Rolesville- Feb 4th   Heritage- Feb 10th*     Wake Forest- Feb 11th

*date incorrectly listed last week

8th Grade Parents:  Career and Technical Education will be celebrating CTE Month by hosting Career Connections 2021 on Wednesday, February 24, for students grades 8-12.  The virtual event using Booth Central will kick-off at 9:00 a.m. with a wide selection of 30-minute career readiness workshops hosted by WCPSS Career Development Coordinators.  From 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., students will have the opportunity to meet virtually with industry professionals during an Industry Fair showcasing the 16 Career Clusters.  Heritage Middle School 8th grade students will be participating in this event in lieu of an asynchronous assignment during this timeframe.  Students should have registered to receive an email so they can choose which sessions they would like to attend and which presenters they would like to meet.  This virtual conference will take the place of the face-to-face career fair that students usually participate in each year.

Bus Route Impact:  Keep in mind that buses will now be making runs to the high school in addition to their previous runs.  This may impact dismissal times and arrival times at students’ homes.

Chromebooks:  If you have a Chromebook loaned to you by WCPSS and you're no longer using it, please return it. We can reissue it to a student in need.

Reminders from Previous Weekly Messages

End of Year Testing:  Click here for January Updates.

Meal Benefits:  Parents, please consider applying for meal benefits by Feb 26. For every student that turns in the free/reduced lunch application and qualifies, the school receives federal funds that benefit the student and teachers at the school. These funds provide additional teachers and staff for the school which means more services for students, especially students that are struggling in reading or math. These funds also are used for materials and supplies for students and teachers. These are valuable resources that teachers can use to improve student achievement.

Meals will be free for all students through June 2021, but we still need you to complete a meal benefits application so our school can be eligible for this extra funding next year. Information about applying for Meal Benefits for the 2020-21 school year can be found at Help our school continue to receive this funding by completing an application online at Paper applications can be requested by calling 919-588-3535.

Office Hours:  While students remain in the remote setting, we have limited staff in the building.  Please call ahead to make an appointment if possible.  We are currently staffed for drop in visits Monday - Wednesday between 9:00 - 2:00 and Thursday 9:00 - noon.  We will resume regular office hours, 7:30 - 4:00 February 15.

Substitutes:  One of the primary drivers in reopening schools is having sufficient substitutes to cover classes when a teacher has to be out of school.  If you’d like to assist in filling this need, please go to for further information.  Thank you!

Yearbook Information: Would you like to order a 2020-2021 yearbook?  The website to order online is and the school ID code is 14310021.
