January 31, 2021 Principal Message

Hello Patriot Families!

It was so exciting to see students back in virtual classrooms this week.  I hope that your students have had a great start to the second semester.   Here are this week’s updates:

8th Grade Parents:   The time has arrived to begin the High School registration process!  Please go to Mrs. McCorquodale's website found HERE.  She will be communicating to you via her website as well as presenting information to your child via their CORE classrooms.  The dates for the parent informational session, titled "High School on the Horizon" will be forthcoming.  In the meantime, feel free to look over items she has already posted - specifically, the "Open House/Curriculum Fair" flyers for Heritage, Rolesville, Wakefield and Wake Forest High Schools and the "Moving on Up" presentation for your child. Contact Mrs. McCorquodale with any questions after viewing her website.   nmccorquodale@wcpss.net

High School Open House Dates:

Wakefield- Feb 3rd Rolesville- Feb 4th Heritage- Feb 19th      Wake Forest- Feb 11th

Calendar:  All students are currently in remote learning.  Wednesday, February 3 is a WCPSS Remote Learning Day; all assignments will be asynchronous that day.

Chromebooks:  If you have a Chromebook loaned to you by WCPSS and you're no longer using it, please return it. We can reissue it to a student in need.

Meal Benefits:  Parents, please consider applying for meal benefits by Feb 26. For every student that turns in the free/reduced lunch application and qualifies, the school receives federal funds that benefit the student and teachers at the school. These funds provide additional teachers and staff for the school which means more services for students, especially students that are struggling in reading or math. These funds also are used for materials and supplies for students and teachers. These are valuable resources that teachers can use to improve student achievement.

Meals will be free for all students through June 2021, but we still need you to complete a meal benefits application so our school can be eligible for this extra funding next year. Information about applying for Meal Benefits for the 2020-21 school year can be found at www.wcpss.net/Page/1849. Help our school continue to receive this funding by completing an application online at MySchoolApps.com. Paper applications can be requested by calling 919-588-3535.

Office Hours:  While students remain in the remote setting, we have limited staff in the building.  Please call ahead if possible.  We are currently staffed between 9:00 - 2:00.

PTA Updates:  The next PTA meeting is scheduled for February 2 at 6:00 pm.  Please check out the HMS PTA website https://heritagemiddlepta.weebly.com/  for the meeting link.  You may also contact us by email HMSPTAWF@gmail.com with any questions or concerns.  Thank you for supporting the HMS PTA!

Substitutes:  One of the primary drivers in reopening schools is having sufficient substitutes to cover classes when a teacher has to be out of school for a variety of reasons, including exposure to Covid-19.  If you’d like to assist in filling this need, please go to wcpss.net/subs for further information.  Thank you!
