Make up day Tomorrow, Dec. 7
We will have a make-up day tomorrow, December 7, for students on Tracks 1, 3 and 4. We will serve breakfast, but will not serve lunch. We will begin school at the regular time and dismiss at 11:50 AM.
Parent Survey - please complete

We have heard through other survey data that you are interested in different program offerings that can help better equip you to support your child as they navigate their middle school years. HMS Giving Tree
The HMS giving tree is an opportunity to serve our community. You can pick up an ornament from the tree in the front office and bring back a new item for a child in need. Items requested include coats, hoodies, underwear, socks, hats, gloves, and gift cards to Target or Walmart. Drop off items in the office through Dec 20.
Upcoming Open House Events
We have scheduled an Open House for Tuesday, January 14 from 5:00-6:15 PM in our media center. This event has been scheduled to coincide with the WCPSS Magnet/Year-Round application period. We welcome any new family considering attending Heritage Middle for the 2020-2021 school year. There will be an information session with Q&A as well as a guided tour of the building.
Reminder that we have Homework resources for parentsfor Math and Language Arts on our website. They are under the "Parents" tab and then "Homework Resources".
Magnet / Year-Round Application
The WCPSS Magnet and Year-Round School application period is currently open and closes on January 30th. Please contact your child's counselor if you have any questions regarding the Magnet / Year-Round School application process.
WCPSS Early College High School Application
8th grade parents: Please be aware the WCPSS Early College High School application period closes on December 16th. If you have any question regarding WCPSS Early College High Schools, please contact Mrs. McCorquodale, 8th grade counselor.
High School on the Horizon
Believe it or not, High School for your 8th grader is right around the corner! Please plan on attending "High School on the Horizon" on Tuesday, January 28th, from 5-6 pm in the HMS auditorium. At this presentation parents will receive information about High School graduation requirements, career pathways, how HMS will conduct 9th grade registration, and hear presentation from CollegeWise. 8th grade students accompanied by their parent are also welcome to attend. Please contact Mrs. McCorquodale, 8th grade counselor, with any questions. The presentation will be posted on her website after the event for those unable to attend.
Requests for Educational Excused Absences
Parents, when completing the Request for Educational Excused Absence form, please include a detailed explanation for the educational nature of the leave. This will allow for quicker response time in approving or denying your students request. Also, a 2-day advance notice is required to be considered for approval.
Winter Athletics update
Our Boys and Girls basketball season got underway this week with a big win against Durant in their home opener.
