8th grade families - HS options

This message is for our 8th grade parents: Wake County offers a variety of high school options if you are interested in your child attending a high school other than your Base High School. Mrs. McCorquodale, 8th grade counselor, will share information with your child in a core class presentation during the next few weeks about the specific Magnet High School and Early College High School opportunities available to your rising 9th grader. Several of these schools will also be presenting to our 8th graders in Quarter 2 during the regular school day in order to promote the specific programs offered at their schools. The Early College High School Fair is Saturday, Oct 12th from 9-11 AM at Vernon Malone College & Career Academy. The Magnet Fair is Saturday, October 26th from 9AM -12PM at Panther Creek High School. The application period for Early College High Schools opens on October 12th and closes December 16th. The application period for Magnet/Year-Round Schools opens October 26th and closes January 30th. Please check out Mrs. McCorquodale's presentation titled "High School Options" on her website or contact her directly for information regarding these High School options for your child.

HMS Progress Report

I encourage you to take a look at the Heritage Middle Progress Report using this link. This report, along with a progress report for all WCPSS schools, is available on the WCPSS website.  At HMS, we are very proud of the learning environment we have created that supports the development of the whole child as well as encourages our teachers to be creative in their instructional approaches used for every student each day!

Athletics update

Patriot Fall Athletics are in full swing. Our ladies soccer team won and is now 3-0, our football game at Zebulon was postponed until Monday, October 7 due to the record heat, and our ladies volleyball team won their first match and is now 1-2.  All Patriot athletes represented their school community with pride and outstanding character! Please visit the HMS Athletics website for a full calendar of events and plan to come out to support Patriot Athletics! I would also encourage you to consider following HMS Athletics on Twitter @HMSAthletics1.

Student Safety

Please be aware that we have many students walking to school in the mornings and home from school in the afternoons. Many cross Rogers Road.  I ask each of you to drive slowly and be highly alert for students and help us ensure the safety of all our students!  Thanks so much.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!
