July 26, 2019 Principal's Message

First day for Track 4 is Monday

We are looking forward to welcoming our Track 4 students for their first day on Monday!

The "HMS Way" video

All our students on Tracks 1, 2 and 3 have viewed the “HMS Way” video as part of us teaching expectations and setting our students up for success from day 1. Track 4 students will view this video next week.  I encourage all families to also view the video, which is posted to the front page of our website.

Fall Pictures

Fall portraits will be on Wednesday, August 7 for tracks 2 & 4. Pre-payment envelopes will be sent home on Monday. All students on track 2 & 4 will be photographed for the yearbook.

Grading Policy, Homework Plan and Honor Code

I encourage all parents to visit the HMS website to review our school’s grading policy, homework pln and the new WCPSS Honor Code policy (#4310). All three can be found under “Academics” and then “Grading, Homework and Honor Code”.

Walkers / Bikers

Students who will be walking or biking home from school must have a note from their parent. The student must bring the note to the front office where we will verify the authenticity of the note before approving it. Students must have the approved note (or a picture of it) in order to leave campus after school.

If you are carpooling, please remain in your car and pull all the way up to the orange cone. Please close gaps between cars so we can move the line along as quickly as possible.  All carpool traffic must turn right out of the carpool lane and follow traffic around to the elementary school unless directed by a staff member to turn left.  This helps the flow of traffic to continue to move smoothly.  Thanks for your cooperation.

Heads Up Football Clinic

We are planning our first HMS Parent Heads Up Football Clinic tomorrow, July 27th from 7:30 AM - 12:00 noon right here at Heritage Middle School. Visit the HMS website to sign up.

PTA "No Fuss" Fundraiser sets new goal - Please help!

Our HMS PTA No Fuss Fundraiser is off to a great start! This year we are trying to reach our biggest fundraising goal yet of $18,000! Any amount is appreciated, and all donations will fund PTA events for HMS students and staff throughout the year.  All students received a yellow envelope on the second day of school that includes information on the No Fuss Fundraiser and how to make a donation.  Please return these envelopes to your student’s home room teacher.  For every envelope returned your student will be entered into a raffle to win Chick Fil A sandwiches for themselves and 4 friends!  One winner per track will be chosen.  We appreciate your support in helping to make HMS the best it can be.  Our PTA also has a new sponsorship program.  Information can be found on the PTA website at or you can email  We appreciate our communities continued support of HMS!

New Student Dress Code

The WCPSS Board of Education has created a new student dress code policy #4316. We ask all parents to carefully review this policy and partner with us by monitoring student attire. We strive to honor the guiding principles the WCPSS BOE set that focuses on a student dress code which is similar to those experienced and expected in the workplace. The full student dress code policy can be found on the WCPSS website under Board Policies as well as on the HMS website under reminders.  While the entire policy should be read carefully, I wanted to point our three areas (sections A, D and H) in particular:

  1. Students must wear clothing that covers their skin from chest to mid-thigh with non-see-through fabric in front, back and on the sides.
  2. Breasts, genitals and buttocks must be covered with non-see-through fabric.
  3. Head coverings (including hats and hoods) are prohibited in the building with the exception of sincerely held religious beliefs or cultural expressions or to reasonable accommodate medical or disability related issues.
