OCE Family Marathon 2019

Dear Parent/Guardian,

You and your child are invited to join us for the 2019 Family Marathon Run at Olive Chapel
Elementary. The Family Marathon is an annual event that encourages children to run/walk a full
26.2 mile marathon with family members at a rate that is fun and safe for their growing bodies.
Families run/walk 25 miles at home and the final 1.2 miles of the marathon distance is run from
the track at school as a whole school celebration. Parents and siblings are encouraged to join in.
Our goal is to support family efforts to create healthy lifestyles and fitness development.
Each student will be taught how to write a SMART GOAL in Physical Education class. We
encourage you to print the grade level SMART GOAL form and reflection sheet to complete on
a weekly basis. Practice will help your child develop goal setting skills and foster a growth
mindset with the focus on individual effort. Teachers will also reinforce SMART goal setting and
reflection in the classroom. Students may track their mileage on the Running Log.
