A Special Message from Interim Principal Dr. Kearney
January 18, 2019
Dear Green Hope Families,
I am excited to serve as your interim principal for the next few months while county leadership identifies your next principal. Ms. Summers and I have met to discuss the transition and we are both confident that the Green Hope community will sustain the positive energy and momentum that makes this school such a wonderful place to work and learn.
Last summer, I retired as the principal of Apex High School after thirty years as a North Carolina public educator. I have taught grades 5 through 12 and served as principal at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. My leadership experience has afforded me many unique opportunities including, but not limited to, moving school campuses in preparation for renovations and reconstruction, working with staff and community to develop a new magnet theme, strengthening school culture to reduce teacher turnover, and garnering community support to promote a greater sense of identity and school pride. I consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be part of WCPSS and am excited about this new chapter in my professional career.
While there is a lot to do to support a high school the size of Green Hope, I will strive to be visible and accessible to students, staff, and parents. Student and staff safety and maintaining an orderly learning environment are my priorities. To that end, it will be important for me to be in the hallways, common areas, and classrooms whenever possible. Please encourage your student to introduce him/herself and share questions or concerns - I look forward to getting to know the Green Hope community.
On Thursday, January 17, I met with the PTSA Executive Board and we identified several priorities upon which I will focus in the coming months. I look forward to meeting with Senior Parents and the PTSA at their monthly meetings with the next being Monday, February 4. The Senior Activities Committee meeting will begin at 6:00 and the PTSA meeting will begin at 7:00 - both meetings will be held in the Media Center. I encourage you to attend this meeting as I will share information about the process the county will follow in identifying the next principal for Green Hope High School.
During my first week at Green Hope, I met with office staff, the administrative team, our counselors, many teachers, and other staff to gain as much insight as possible into how I can best support the Green Hope community. For the first several days of second semester, I will visit each English class to introduce myself to students in a smaller setting. These visits will be 5 to 7 minutes long and are intended to allow students the opportunity to ask questions and get to know me. During lunch periods, I will be out and about in the commons areas and hallways to meet students.
If you would like to meet or have questions for me, please do not hesitate to email me (email@example.com), call (919 380-3700) or send me a note. I appreciate your support during this transition and I look forward to working with you to provide a positive and supportive learning environment for all of our students.
Diann Kearney, Ed.D.
