Hello Raven Families,
It’s very hard to believe September is only a couple of days away. This year is certainly cruising on by. I hope this finds you all well and please carefully read the following information as it contains important updates.
New for this week:
- 7th-grade families, the deadline for your Tdap & Meningitis booster is around the corner. All 7th-grade students (in person or VA) must show proof of vaccination or they will not be able to attend school starting September 7th. These can be done at your doctor or Health & Human Services. Email Ms. Chapman, 7th Grade Counselor, at rchapman@wcpss.net with any questions.
- Due to the rising cases of COVID, the county has issued new guidance around lunch. Students will need to eat outside if possible, in classrooms or other areas of the building where they can be socially distanced while their mask is off. Please have a conversation with your child about the importance of this. We want all our Ravens in school and prefer not to have to quarantine students. This new procedure will significantly reduce the number of students needing to quarantine should we have exposure or a positive case.
- If your child is in 7th or 8th grade with Healthful Living this semester, please be on the lookout for a letter going home Monday from our Counseling Department. All WCPSS students in grades 7 & 8 in Healthful Living will participate in a lesson on Human Trafficking Prevention & Awareness. Students will participate in a survey to help staff in identifying high-risk students and referring them to resources. Parents wishing to opt their student out of this lesson must do so in writing to the school principal prior to the presentation of the lesson on September 14.
On-going Important School Information:
- Please send your child with a water bottle if possible. Donations are needed for small disposable water cups.
- Please make sure that your child comes to school with his/her fully charged device and earbuds each day.
- Students interested in 2021-2022 athletics: Information will be updated daily on our NRMS athletic website. Physicals, sports dates, schedules, and more can be found here!
- Any parents who recently tried to create a PowerSchool account may have received a message to wait for an email to confirm your email. The county is aware that you are not receiving that email and is working on a fix. If you have created your account and gotten that message, please email your name and your student’s name to your grade level counselor. 6th grade - mlawson@wcpss.net; 7th grade - rchapman@wcpss.net; 8th grade - mcorey@wcpss.net
- Parents, please make sure your child meets our school dress code before they leave for school each morning. The dress code policy can be accessed here for your reference.
Covid Protocols:
- Masks are required for all students (and staff) in the building when students are present.
- Directional hallways and stairwells are STILL in place
- Water fountains are still closed off. Please send a water bottle with your student. Their water bottles can be refilled throughout the day at our water refill stations throughout the building.
- If your student is sick, please keep them home and email Ms. Shore (jshore@wcpss.net) for additional guidance. Students will need a doctor's note or a negative COVID test to return at this time.
- If your student becomes sick at school, you will be contacted and asked to pick your student up. You will sign your student out in the front office and then drive to the side of the building, labeled Care Center, to pick your student up.
- If your student is exposed to anyone with COVID-19 or diagnosed with COVID-19, please contact Ms. Shore as soon as possible.
