Driver Eligibility Certificate
Students are required by the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicle and dropout prevention services to pass at least 3 of 4 classes per semester at AHS to obtain a Driver Eligibility Certificate. This form is needed to obtain or maintain a learner’s permit or a driver license. You may take driver education without meeting the 3 of 4 passing requirement; however, you will not satisfy the driver eligibility rules until you pass 3 of 4 classes for the semester (meaning you will not get your permit). Driver’s Eligibility Certificates are validated by the staff at AHS. Once validated, the Driver’s Eligibility Certificate is only good for 30 days. You must bring your certificate from the driving school, your birth certificate, and your last semester report card in order to get your Driver's Eligibility Certificate. Also, you should have a confirmed appointment at the NCDMV before coming to student services. REFER TO THE SCHOOL HOMEPAGE ON THE PROCESS OF OBTAINING THE DEC FORM.

BTW has started back as of July 13 with a reduced workforce and we will proceed as scheduled prior to the closure. We will work through each class session based on age within the class, oldest to youngest. As you all know, this situation has compromised everyone's typical schedules and processes.
o We are currently working with November classroom students We will work through those students first then move to the students from the later classes from the Fall and Spring . The process is expected to take some time, especially with the advent of "school day hours" and time requirements.
o Sometimes a younger student is scheduled prior to an older one due to answering the phone/email or general availability for a time-sensitive schedule. If you have a phone setting that does not allow your phone to ring with an unrecognized number, you might want to turn it off.
O The current wait time between finishing the class and being scheduled for driving in around 20 weeks. This time should be reducing once students are dismissed for the summer.
o Each driver has been trained on safety protocols and has specific directions to follow that are not negotiable.
