Sunday Night Announcements - Week of March 23rd

     Hello Wonderful Wendell Families,

Here are the Sunday Night Announcements for the week of March 23rd:

      WCPSS Updates

Please continue to use https://www.wcpss.net/coronavirus for district-level updates regarding COVID-19 and its impact on WCPSS.  The link to Wake County's new remote learning website is also included on this page.

Will Teachers Be Available During This Time?

Copied and pasted from the WCPSS Remote Learning Site:

"During the initial two-week closure through March 30, it is important that all of us - parents, students, administrators, and the community - recognize and understand that the availability of our teachers and staff may be limited during this time of transition. That said, while not required, we certainly appreciate the fact that teachers and school staff may contact you with more information about keeping your child engaged.

As circumstances continue to rapidly evolve, we will provide additional updates as appropriate."

Any student work shared/suggested by teachers both last week and this week should be considered supplemental and optional.

     Upcoming Events

As I anticipate that many WES events will be rescheduled and few even cancelled, the "Upcoming Events" section has been temporarily removed from my Sunday Night Message.  Once a solid timeline for the district has been established, we'll take action to adjust things here at the school level.

     Field Trip Refunds

As mentioned in Friday night's message from the Wake County Public School System, all field trips have been cancelled through June 30th.  A few things to know about this:

  - At WES, all grade levels except 2nd grade have had a least one field trip cancelled.

  - Every refund will need to be hand-processed at school by verifying each homeroom teacher's receipt book.

  - After processing, each check will need to be signed by both the lead secretary and the principal.

  - The plan now is for checks to be mailed to the student address listed in Powerschool.  If your address is inaccurate or not current, you may not receive your refund check.  Please contact our data manager, Jennifer Villareal (jvillareal@wcpss.net) if you need to update your address.

Thanks for your patience as we work through this... At this time, I don't feel comfortable setting a timeframe for when all refunds will be processed.

I hope that you and your family are well and in good spirits.  Although I will continue to defer to WCPSS in terms of messaging, as WES-specific news becomes available, I will share with you directly.  Please email (jzellmer@wcpss.net) or call/text (919.374.0503) me as needed.

     Sincerely,
