Sunday Night Announcements - Week of December 2nd
Hello Wonderful Wendell Families,
I hope that your Thanksgiving holiday was fantastic... Only three weeks of school until Winter Break! Here are the Sunday Night Announcements for the week of December 2nd:
Snuggle Up and Read - Remix
Please mark the evening of Thursday, December 5th on your calendars! From 5:30-7:30 that night, WES will host our Snuggle Up and Read - Remix. We're revamping this year's event to make it more inclusive and more fun! You should have received a flyer in your child's Tuesday folder with all of the details... See you there!
Fall Picture Make-up Day
This Thursday, December 5th, is our Fall Picture Make-up Day.
Our next Z Chat will be on Friday, December 13th at 41 North Coffee... I hope to see you there!
Beginning in January, K-3 students in Wake County will be introduced to a new universal screening tool called Istation. Please click on the links for the introductory parent letter (in English and Spanish), along with instructions to set up your parent portal, and an overview of each of the subtests. Teachers here at WES will participate in Istation training this December. Please reach out to me with any questions/concerns.
Please remember that if you want to check your child out of school early, you must bring your photo ID (driver's license, passport, etc.) with you. Failure to bring your ID may result in our front office staff denying your request for an early student checkout. This policy is in place for the safety of our students. Please contact me if you have any questions/concerns.
This year, WES is using Readvolution (a district-wide reading initiative partnering WCPSS and the Carolina Hurricanes) in conjunction with some school-based programs. Please see the program overview and book logging instructions (click here and here for the Spanish versions). Thanks for encouraging your child(ren) to read, read, read!
Cell Phone and Smart Watches
We have recently had a few situations involving students using cell phones and smart watches during the school day. This is a reminder that because WES is not designated as a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) school, our policy is that students may not access personal technology devices during school hours. Please remind your child(ren) to keep their devices in their backpacks if they bring them to school.
Student Check-out and Transportation Reminder
Just a friendly reminder that 2:30pm is the cutoff time for students being checked out by families each afternoon; if you arrive after that time, you will be directed to pick up your child(ren) through the carpool line.
Additionally, transportation changes must be communicated to the front office before 2:30pm as well. Students will be sent home via their regular means of transportation if change requests are received after 2:30pm.
Thank you for following these procedures, which are in place for the safety of our students.
As you visit campus this year and take pictures, please consider emailing your candid and group photos to firstname.lastname@example.org for inclusion in our 2019-2020 yearbook.
Please consider utilizing our new digital book collection, which is now available to every student here at WES! Our kids can now checkout digital titles and have access to them from any device, 24/7/365! The link and login information can be found on the front page of our website in the Daily School Announcements section (just below the big red toolbar). You can also simply click the MackinVIA logo below and use the following login info:
Username: First part of student's email address (before @wcpss.net). For example, "jdzellmer"
Password: Student's lunch number
The books can be sorted by reading level, genre and category, amongst others. Please contact our Media Specialist, Nikohl Scheuerlein at email@example.com with any questions you have. Happy reading!
WES Spirit Fridays
Fridays at WES are Spirit Fridays! Please have your child(ren) join staff in wearing WES shirts or school colors (red, white and blue) every Friday. Who's got it better than WES? NOBODY!
Please consider following this link and joining the PTA for the 2019-2020 school year. WES is a National PTA School of Excellence in part due to the involvement of our families... And joining the PTA is the first step!
