WECHS Principal's Message 1/3/2022
Happy New Year!
Welcome to Spring Semester (while it felt like spring yesterday, not so much today). I hope you are loving these snowflakes as much as I am today. Welcome Winter!
Symptoms of Illness:
You may not enter a WCPSS facility if you have been: Instructed to quarantine or you are experiencing any of these Covid symptoms of illness: Fever or chills, Cough, Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, Fatigue, Muscle or body aches, Headache, New loss of taste or smell, Sore throat, Congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and/or Diarrhea.
Students: STAY HOME IF YOU ARE SICK or experiencing any of the symptoms listed above.
If you are experiencing symptoms not listed on the NCDHHS COVID-19 symptom list above (like earache, stomach ache), you may return to school after you have gone at least 24 hours without fever or the use of fever-reducing medicine, AND you have felt well for 24 hours.
Quarantine and Isolation guidance has been updated at this link and summarized below.
Staff and students who have symptoms, regardless of vaccination status should get tested and isolate themselves from others while waiting for a result
Diagnosed with Covid = Isolate for 5 days following your positive Covid test (or more than 5 days depending on when symptoms and fever end)
Exposed to Covid w/in the last 2 weeks and NOT experiencing Covid symptoms:
Staff and students who are exposed to someone with COVID-19, and
Not vaccinated= stay away from others for 5 days, get tested on day 5 after exposure, and if they test negative, return to school.
Vaccinated and eligible for a booster, but not yet been boosted= stay away from others for 5 days, get tested on day 5 after exposure, and if they test negative, return to school.
Vaccinated, and have either received a booster or are not yet eligible for a booster= individuals do not need to stay away from others.
Once we return to the building:
EXCEPTIONS
If face coverings were worn appropriately (over nose, mouth, and under chin) and consistently by both the person with COVID-19 and the potentially exposed person. Individuals who are not fully vaccinated after a close contact in a classroom or other school setting if masks were being worn appropriately and consistently by both the person with COVID-19 and the potentially exposed person do NOT need to quarantine
Covid Testing at School:
Beginning Wednesday, January 12, WECHS students and staff on both campuses are eligible for Covid testing at school. This site provides the details. Only those registered will be able to participate.
Student IDs: Please have your student ID with you at all times.
Bus Riders: On Cold/Rainy days, Enloe Administration has graciously agreed to allow WECHS bus rides to stand just inside the doors by the bus loop. Enloe Administrators are on duty in that area. WECHS students must remain in that area and follow the directives of Enloe’s staff.
PHS Carpool:
Due to long lines in both directions of Sunnybrook Road for Covid testing on Kidd Road, PHS Carpool will most likely be significantly impacted. I’m not sure if there is a resolution. All that I ask is you plan ahead and be patient.
Lunches for this week, January 4-7 on PHS and January 6-7 on North Campus
(on North sign up with Mrs. Hennings by 8:30 am each morning)

Testing
PreACT
All 10th graders will take the PreACT on Thursday, January 20, 2022, during the 1st and 2nd periods.
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) has a partnership with ACT, a not-for-profit organization that provides educational assessment, research, information, and program management services. In North Carolina, all 10th graders take the PreACT. This assessment measures what students have learned in their courses and helps educators identify the information that students still need to learn to succeed in college or a career. There is no fee for this exam.
ACT
All juniors will take the ACT on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, on the PHS Campus. More details to follow in future messages.
