WECHS Principal's Weekly Message, Friday, July 3, 2020
Happy Friday everyone. I hope this message finds you well and able to enjoy some quality time together with family during this Independence Day Holiday weekend.
Within the past week, you received information from WCPSS and the Governor regarding the opening of schools for 2020-2021. As directed, the WCPSS district has presented Plans A, B, and C depending on the decision of the Governor later this month.
Soon, you will receive information regarding a WCPSS Virtual Academy. As you can imagine, we prefer to have our WECHS students in class, however, we will do all that we can to teach our students in the manner most comfortable to our students and families.
If you have questions and concerns, please reach out to me so that I can review your options with you. I don’t want the fear of face-to-face to serve as the one/only factor when making your decision. WECHS has one teacher for each class, which may dictate how we offer instruction whether in Plan B or C.
The counselors, Mrs. Lachance, (mlachance@wcpss.net), and Mr. Muse (jmuse@wcpss.net), do not have regular hours in July. Please feel free to reach out via email with any questions or concerns. PHS fall schedules should be available in Powerschool.
Contact Ms. Graham, amgraham1@waketech.edu with questions regarding the WTCC courses.
Contact Ms. Wooten, gmwooten@wcpss.net, with questions regarding North Campus.
Ms. Graham sent an email to students in WTCC classes earlier this summer. WTCC will hold virtual courses this fall. Details are specific to each class. Some are synchronous, some are hybrid, while others are online only. Please contact Ms. Graham with questions. See attached message from Ms. Graham about North classes for Fall 2020:

Rising seniors must have the Meningococcal vaccine booster by the first day of school in August. If students have never had the first dose, they must also have it by the first day of school. Please provide proof of vaccination via fax (919-626-4476), email (alluberes@wcpss.net), or turn in to the office on our first day of school in August. (WTCC campus is not open to walk-ins at this time).
As events continue to develop regarding the 2020-2021 school year, I will continue sending a weekly message throughout the summer with updates.
We are working on plans to allow students to turn in items and pick up yearbooks. Stay tuned for more information.
Driver’s License Updates from WCPSS: Obtaining a Driving Eligibility Certificate (DEC) during COVID-19 school building closure: Students are only eligible to receive a Driving Eligibility Certificate during this time if they have a confirmed appointment with the NC DMV within 30 days of the date of the request. Email Ms. Lluberes with your confirmation email at alluberes@wcpss.net. As we do not have easy direct access to our building, Ms. Lluberes will be scheduling an appointment with you to pick up your DEC.
North Updates
Textbook return: More information will be coming soon about returning your textbooks to North campus. Please keep your textbooks in a place where you will be able to find them when we are ready to collect them.
We will know more information about how AAs and HS seminar classes will be scheduled and the specifics of each WTCC class after more information is released from the Governor and WCPSS later in the summer.

Rising Class of 2021:
1.) Look for an email regarding access to our new college application, scholarship, and career information management system called NAVIANCE. You’ll be able to manage your college applications, resumes, apply for scholarships, etc., all through one portal.
2.) Many colleges are changing application requirements for the 2020-2021 application year. You may not have to submit test scores, for example. The summer is a great time to begin working on college application requirements and getting all of your pieces together to apply to college, including writing essays and requesting letters of recommendation from teachers. Many of you will use The Common Application to apply to college. The essay prompts are the same as before, so you can get a head start on it: https://www.commonapp.org/blog/common-app-2020-2021-essay-prompts
The Common Application opens on August 1 to begin submitting application for the new school year. You have some time now, but writing your essay and pulling together a solid list of your activities will help you in the completion process.
3.) In August, we will have some virtual sessions to share information about applying to college, financial aid, etc. Look for these, too!
Rising Juniors: We know you are excited to be headed to North campus! We will send information to you as it comes to us regarding your fall semester on North.
Class of 2020 info related to grades and transcripts:
The seniors and super-seniors graduating this year will have either PC19 (Pass) or WC19 (Withdrawal for any failed grades) on their WECHS high school transcript. Final WECHS transcripts have been mailed or submitted through Common Application to the college indicated on the “Bound-For” Survey you completed.
Remember to have your final transcript from WTCC submitted to your college. You have to request this. View this link for more information: https://www.waketech.edu/student-services/registration-student-records/how-to/order-transcripts
