A.B. Combs families,

 

This past week, several student leaders represented Combs at the regional math & science fair.  We even have some student leaders going on to the state competition.  On Thursday, we celebrated leaders in physical fitness who competed at the district level First in Fitness athletic competition.  We are so proud of our wonderful Combs leaders! 

 

Based on feedback, new information below is listed in green, and information that is repeated is listed in blue.

 

Interim Assistant Principal:  As many of you know, our amazing assistant principal, Mrs. Storey, is expecting a baby.  Her last day before her maternity leave is Monday, March 17th.  We are thrilled to welcome an interim assistant principal, Ms. Diane Lockwood, who will be joining Combs beginning March 18th till the end of the school year.  Mrs. Storey will be returning to Combs in July.  

 

After-School LEGO Activity:  We are excited to offer an after-school STEM Lego class from April to June.  You can view class information and sign-up information here.

 

Wax Museum: Our 5th grade students will share their 5th grade Wax Museum on April 11th.  All students will be able to participate and are encouraged to bring coins to “activate” student leaders.  Money collected will benefit a charity that supports Western North Carolina.

 

Carpool: I continue to ask that families do not cut in line and make safe choices when driving in our carpool.  There are many families making u-turns in the streets, cul-de-sacs, etc.  Please follow the directions of our carpool staff.  It presents an extreme safety concern for other drivers and for students who live in the neighborhood and are walking to and from school.  We have reached out to Raleigh Police to continue to monitor the neighborhood during carpool to help reinforce safety expectations.

 

Bracket Breakfast: We are excited to invite families to join their child for Bracket Breakfast and complete an NCAA tournament bracket.  Last names A-L are welcome to come to school on Tuesday, March 18th and last names M-Z are welcome to attend Wednesday, March 19th.  Breakfast will be available from 7:50-8:30am and families are asked to bring CASH!  Our cafeteria does not take debit or credit cards.

 

Single Subject Acceleration Information and Meeting:   Parents may request testing for their child to be considered for Single Subject Acceleration from March 10- March 28. Information can be found here.  Parents with students in traditional calendar schools can only request testing during the March 10- March 28 window using this link.  Please use the link that states 2024-25 Test Request: Traditional Calendar and Year-Round Track 2, 3, and 4.   Requests must be received by 5:00 pm on March 28. 

 

Math Bee: The 2025 Combs Math Bee is underway. Families have been notified if their student has made it to the next round in the Math Bee.  Invited families are invited to the Math Bee Awards assembly on Monday, March 24th at 8:45am.  If you have any questions, please email Kate Garrison (kgarrison@wcpss.net).

Volunteers Needed:  The PTA is hosting an Inflatable Party on Friday, March 21st to celebrate exceeding our Gator Gallop fundraising goal and we need your help! Volunteers are needed to help with the inflatables during recess. Please click here to volunteer! Thank you for your support!

Volunteers for Art Show:  We are also looking for volunteers to help to prepare for the upcoming Art Show.  We need volunteers on a variety of days, and you can view the sign-up here.
