June 9, 2024

A.B. Combs Families,

It’s hard to believe this coming week is our last week of school.  As a reminder, the last day of school is Wednesday, June 12th.

5th grade graduation:  We will host our 5th grade graduation on Tuesday, June 11th, at 9am at the school track.  Families are asked to bring their own lawn chairs to enjoy this outdoor event.  In the event of rain, graduation will be moved to the school gym and each student will be allotted 2 tickets for guests to attend.

Lost and Found:  Our Combs Lost and Found is overflowing with items.  Please be sure your child checks this area right outside the cafeteria before the last day of school.  After school ends, all items will be donated.

Bus times at End of the Year:  Our buses are part of a tiered bus service that aligns with Athens Drive High School.  During high school exams, our buses will arrive at Combs earlier at dismissal and therefore will be dropping off earlier in the afternoons.  Please plan to arrive at your child’s bus stop early on June 10, 11, 12.  Thank you for your proactive planning for this schedule change.

Simple volunteer renewal process opens July 1:  Families who were approved to volunteer in the 2023-24 school year will receive an email on June 1 outlining the simple volunteer renewal process for the 2024-25 school year. We encourage families to renew their volunteer status during the renewal window, July 1-Oct. 1.

5th graders and laptops:  ALL 5th graders need to locate and return their Chromebook and chargers.  In the spirit of Habit #5, we understand how things get misplaced, but please spend some extra time looking at home to locate your child's charger.

School Issued Laptops: 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders are permitted to keep their WCPSS laptop over the summer.  Please be sure they keep it in a safe place so students can bring it with them back to school in the fall.  However, if your child is not planning to return to WCPSS school for next school year, please return the laptop to school by Monday, June 10th.

Family Event on June 29th: Some of our Combs staff will be leading a free session this summer about personality type at Marbles Museum on June 29th from 5:30 7:00 pm.  Parents and children (ages 5-12) are welcome to attend.  There will be interactive activities that explore the four personality preference pairs: Introversion/Extraversion, Sensing/Intuition, Thinking/Feeling, and Judging/Perceiving.  Stop by to enjoy hands-on learning, discover what makes each of you unique, and walk away with great ideas on how to understand each other and communicate better.  View the event flyer here.

Supply Kits for Next Year: It's not too early to start thinking about school supplies for next year! The PTA has made it easy for parents interested in a one-click shopping experience. Please visit Bright School Kits, search "COMBS" and click on your student's grade level. The supplies will be mailed directly to your home!

Summer Playdates: Please join us this summer for playground play dates with other Combs families! The PTA will be hosting playdates on the following dates. Sign up here to join

  • Sunday, July 21st from 10am -12pm at North Hills Park
  • Tuesday, August 6th from 5pm - 6:30pm at MacDonald Woods Park

Students not returning for next year: It’s hard to believe, but we are in the beginning stages of preparing for the next school year.  Our teacher allotments depend on the number of students we have registered.  If you know your child will not be returning to Combs for the next school year, please email our data manager, Ms. Sarah Ferrell, at
