A.B. Combs families,

It was a great week back to school this week!  Thank you to those families who were able to join us for our virtual Principal Chat this past week.  Please read below for important information.

Solar Eclipse:  On Monday, April 8th, there is a solar eclipse that will take place near the end of the school day.  Please know we will not have students participate in recess after 1:45pm.  We hope to expedite dismissal as quickly and safely as possible.  It will be necessary for students to be reminded not to look directly at the sun during the eclipse time and appreciate you reminding students of this expectation as well.  If you plan to check your child out of school early, all students must be checked out before 2:30pm.

LEGO Play Well After School: We are excited to announce Lego Play Well is offering an after-school opportunity for our students in grades 3rd-5th grades.  Please click on the link for more information to register for this after-school experience. There is still space available for students to join.

Math Bee Awards Assembly: We will host an awards assembly for qualifying students on Monday, April 8th, at 8:45am.  Students and families who are invited should have received an invitation in their child’s Friday Folder before Spring Break.

Wax Museum:  Our 5th grade students will share their 5th grade Wax Museum on April 9th.  All students will be able to participate and are encouraged to bring coins to “activate” student leaders.

Teacher Workday: Please mark your calendars for our next Teacher Workday on Wednesday, April 10th.  There will be no school for students on this day.

Leadership Day:  Friday, April 12th, is our Leadership Day at Combs.  We will welcome guest educators from all over the United States to learn about our leadership model and for our students to have an authentic learning experience to practice their leadership skillset.  All students should plan to dress for success on this day!

Panorama Survey: Help us make your child’s school experience as positive and beneficial as possible by giving honest, thoughtful responses to the questions in our family survey from April 8 - May 17.  This is a district-led survey provided to all families and we welcome your feedback.

Virtual Family Engagement Event:  We will host a virtual Family Engagement Event on Tuesday, April 16th, about The Good and Bad of Social Media with your child.  We highly encourage all parents to attend!   The Google Meet link will be posted on our school website.

Volunteers Needed:  We need volunteers to help prepare for the art show as part of Celebrate the Arts night in May! Volunteer dates start in April, and we need lots of help! Please sign up using this link if you can come in and help!

SSA Information:  Parents may request testing for their child to be considered for Single Subject Acceleration from April 1st-12th. Information can be found HEREParents with students in traditional calendar schools can only request testing during the April 1st-12th window using the link on the WCPSS Website.  Please use the link that states 2023-24 Test Request: Traditional Calendar and Year-Round Track 2.   Requests must be received by the close of school on April 12th.

EOG Testing schedule for grades 3rd-5th: In an effort to be proactive, we want to share our testing schedule for the end of the school year for students in grades 3rd, 4th, and 5th.  We appreciate your partnership as we plan ahead for these testing dates.
