Dear A.B. Combs families,

Thank you to all families who joined us for our 23rd annual Inaugural Ball.  It was wonderful to see so many of you and to have our students practice their leadership and social etiquette skills at this event.

Early Release: Monday, December 5th is Early Release.  School will be dismissed at 1pm on Monday.  We will host a cultural arts assembly on this day.

Combs Spirit Day: Each week leading up to winter break, we are celebrating different spirit days.  On Tuesday, December 6th, we will have Candy Cane Day!  Students and teachers are asked to wear red and white on Tuesday!

Combs Cocoa and Grounds Clean Up Day: Join our PTA for a cup of cocoa and leaf raking! The Combs PTA Grounds Team invites all families to a campus clean-up on Wednesday, December 7th from 3:30-5:30 PM.  Bring your garden tools, leaf blowers, and rakes to help freshen up the grounds for the season. Let's gather in front of the school and get ready to meet new friends, and finish with a steaming cup of cocoa!

Combs Food Drive: Help us give back to our community friend, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle.  They support our school with the Backpack Buddy program and we are collecting canned/pre-packaged goods.  We have extended our Food Drive to Monday, December 12th.  Keep those donations coming!

Science Fair: Please save the date for our annual Combs Science Fair and family STEM Night on Thursday, January 19th.  Participation in the Science Fair is optional for Kindergarten - 4th grade.  It is required for our 5th graders this year.  Registration will open on Monday, November 28th and will close on Tuesday, December 20th.  You will find the registration link and other important information about this year's Science Fair on our school website under the  Academics and Programs tab beginning November 28th.  All students will be learning about the Science Fair and learning how to conduct a scientific investigation during their Imagineering Team 8 to help encourage participation and build excitement for this Combs tradition.  Families, please complete this survey to help us prepare for upcoming parent sessions regarding the science fair.

From City of Raleigh: Raleigh Parks is completing some renovation work at Spring Park, which is a small neighborhood park located at 1422 Collegeview Avenue, near NC State’s campus (and less than 2 miles from A.B. Combs Magnet Elementary School). Improvements will center around a renovated playground for ages 2-5 and 5–12-year-olds, including new equipment, rubberized safety surfacing, and a graded slope. Other updates to Spring Park will include a new accessible park entrance and pathways connecting to the playground. Preliminary planning and designs have been completed, and we have created a survey to solicit community feedback regarding preferences for the new playground.  Please complete this survey to share your feedback on these improvements.

Magnet Tours: Do you know prospective families who would like to apply to our school for the 2023-24 school year?  Our magnet school tours are underway and interested families can sign up on our school website.
