Return to Headlines

December 10, 2021

On Monday, we welcomed North Carolina State Superintendent, Catherine Truitt, to Combs to celebrate Computer Science Education week.  She was so impressed with our amazing leaders!  We also held our school wide spelling bee on Tuesday and are so proud of our leaders in spelling for their hard work preparing for this event.

Holiday Spirit Week: Next week we will celebrate with a Holiday Spirit Week.  We can’t wait to see what our creative leaders have in store!

Monday - Reindeer Day: wear brown, reindeer antlers, red nose

Tuesday - Holiday Head to Toe: holiday hats/headgear, fuzzy socks

Wednesday - Winter Wonderland: Dress in your warmest winter scarf or turtleneck AND gloves or mittens

Thursday - Penguin Day: Dress in all black and white

Friday - Snuggle Up and Read - wear your coziest pajamas

Tardies: We are experiencing a high number of students arriving late to school after the 8:30 bell.  Please be sure your child is prepared and ready to learn by arriving at school before the tardy bell rings.

Masks: We have noticed an increase in students coming to school without masks or needing replacement masks throughout the day. Please remember to keep a couple spare masks in the backpack in the event a replacement is needed.

Winter Break: Next Friday, December 17th is the last day of school before Winter Break.  Students will not return to campus until Monday, January 3rd.

Science Fair: Science Fair boards will be available for NO CHARGE this year for students thanks to our corporate partners!  We will have volunteers giving out science fair boards in front of the Media Center Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings in December from 8-8:30.  We also would love more parents as volunteers as judges, interviewers, helpers, and additional corporate partners.  Please send an email to sciencefair@abcombspta.comRegistration opens November 29th and closes January 7th.  Science Fair projects are due Friday, January 14th.

Magnet Tours: Do you know families who would like to tour Combs for the 2022-23 school year?  Our magnet tours are underway and interested families can sign up on our school website.

What to do if your child is sick: If your child shows any of the following symptoms, your child will need to stay home.  If your child is sick at home with these symptoms they may not return to school unless they receive a negative PCR covid test, or an alternate diagnosis from a doctor, or 10 days quarantine at home. These symptoms include: shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, cough, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.  As always, everyone must be fever free and feeling well for 24 hours prior to returning.

Mark your calendars for these upcoming events:

December 13th-17th: Holiday Spirit Week

December 20th-January 2nd: Winter Break, no school

January 3rd: Students return to school
