October 29, 2021

We enjoyed an incredible Gator Gallop event on Thursday.  It was so endearing to see so many Combs families join us for this memorable event and the sheer joy of our students having so much fun.  While donations are still coming in, our amazing PTA has raised close to $47,000!  We are truly grateful to our wonderful volunteers and Combs families for their support of our school community!

Teacher Workday: This coming Tuesday, November 2nd, is a Teacher’s Workday.  There will be no school for students this day.

Mrs. Staton’s Last Day: Our longtime school secretary, Ms. Staton, will be leaving Combs to pursue a new career opportunity with the state. Ms. Staton has been an invaluable member of our school community and we can never fully express our sincere gratitude for her years of service.  Please join us in celebrating and honoring Ms. Staton, as her last day at Combs will be on Monday, November 1st.

Picture Makeup and Retakes: School pictures were sent home today.  If you would like to have your child’s picture retaken or if need their picture taken, they will be done on Thursday, November 4th.  Ordering information can be found on our school website.

7 Habits Family Engagement Recording: In case you missed this week’s Family Engagement event, please view a recording of the event herePasscode: 0BEq5&j1

Calendar Update: During a recent WCPSS Board meeting, a calendar change was made changing November 12th from a regular school day to a non-instructional day for students. There will be no school and no assignments posted for students to complete on November 12th.

Leadership Notebooks: We are preparing to assemble our students’ Leadership Notebooks in the upcoming weeks.  Please have your child send in a 1” black 3 ring binder to their teacher.

Free STEM Event: The Engineering Place (website), a program sponsored by NCSU's College of Engineering offers many community outreach opportunities related to engaging students and community members in Engineering. On November 4, from 6:30-8:00, TEP is hosting a family STEM night. This is a free event for families who have children in grades K-5. This link is how families can register for this event. While the event is free, a few inexpensive, common household items are required. (Families can indicate that they need a free kit with all the materials to pick up in the Google Form).

What to do if your child is sick: If your child shows any of the following symptoms, your child will need to stay home.  If your child is sick at home with these symptoms they may not return to school unless they receive a negative PCR covid test, or an alternate diagnosis from a doctor, or 10 days quarantine at home. These symptoms include: shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, cough, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.  As always, everyone must be fever free and feeling well for 24 hours prior to returning.

Mark your calendars for these upcoming events:

Tuesday, November 2nd: Teacher Workday, no school

Thursday, November 4th: Picture Makeup day

Thursday, November 11th: Veteran’s Day, no school
