Hello A.B. Combs families,

It was a wonderful day celebrating Walk to School Day on Wednesday with many fun events on our school campus.

Please review the information below for your weekly Combs update.

New Assistant Principal: This past week, the WCPSS Board of Education appointed Patsy Elrod to serve as the assistant principal at A.B. Combs.  We are thrilled to welcome Mrs. Elrod to our school community. Mrs. Elrod has recently served as a school administrator in Johnston County for the past 4 years.  She brings with her a strong skill set and many years of experience working with elementary aged students.  We are eager for her to join our school community, and we look forward to confirming her official start date in the near future.

Monday, October 11th: Monday is a Teacher’s Workday.  Students will not report to school on this day.

Carpool Reminders: If you pick up or drop off your child in carpool, please be aware of neighbors that live in homes along the carpool route.  We ask that you show consideration to neighbors who may be going in and out of their driveways during carpool time.

Camp Read-A-Lot: We are so excited to celebrate reading this quarter with our Camp Read-A-Lot celebration on Friday, October 15.  Students can dress like campers and be ready to do lots of reading and camping themed activities that day! Look for more info coming from your child's teacher.

Yearbook Contest: We are looking for our wonderful leaders in art!  The deadline for students to submit drawings for the cover of the 2021-22 yearbook is October 22nd.  More information about the Yearbook Cover Contest can be found here.

Volunteer Registration: While we are not able to welcome volunteers in our school at this time, we would like to be proactive and have interested families complete the required volunteer registration.   If you are interested in volunteering at any event or field trip, you must complete the volunteer registration at a WCPSS facility by October 29th.  We will have a computer available in the front office to complete this process.

What to do if your child is sick: If your child shows any of the following symptoms, your child will need to stay home.  If your child is sick at home with these symptoms they may not return to school unless they receive a negative PCR covid test, or an alternate diagnosis from a doctor, or 10 days quarantine at home. These symptoms include: shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, cough, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea.  As always, everyone must be fever free and feeling well for 24 hours prior to returning.
