Weekly Message - 10/4/20

Remote Learning Information:

Good evening East Garner Magnet Middle School Families, this is Jimmy Sposato, the proud principal of the Trojans reaching with the Weekly Update. Monday is a B Day.  The School Board voted this week to have Plan  B middle school students return to school in a 3-week rotation starting November 9. We will communicate directly with Plan B families about their child’s rotation assignment late next week. We will also outline the expectations and procedures that we will have in place to promote safety. Students will be required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing at all times when on campus. Of course they pull the mask down to put food in their mouths. We are not approving any shifts between virtual academy and Plan B at this time as staffing has been assigned based on parent preferences. You will have an opportunity to change your preference for the 2nd semester beginning later this month.

We understand that students may be feeling the press of missing assignments. We are accepting late work up until one week prior to the end of the quarter. All late work is due on October 15th. Please have your students talk to their teachers about missing work options.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month - In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month we will have a PINK OUT every Friday starting October 9th. We are asking all staff and scholars to wear pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This week we will ask participants to think about “Who they are wearing pink for”. More information will be shared through the morning announcements.

We will continue with our Asynchronous Wednesday this Wednesday and are transitioning to a full asynchronous day, which will include electives as well. All teachers will have brief assignments posted in each of their classes but they will not have live sessions with teachers. Teachers will offer office hours during the day to support students, clarify, reteach and remediate. Teachers will share the office hours schedule with kids and give them instructions.

We would like to congratulate Mr. Persico, from the Hawks Team, as the EGMMS Trojan Teacher of the Week. Thank you for all the nominations and we have notified all teachers who were nominated. We will continue to do this weekly so keep nominating.  This year has been challenging for all of us and we want to recognize teachers for their efforts in connecting and leading in this age of remote learning. Students and families have first hand knowledge of the work and energy teachers are putting into their instruction. Please take a moment to nominate a teacher for their outstanding work in leading and connecting with their students. Thank you!
