Summer Update 8/2/20
Good afternoon East Garner Magnet Middle School Families, this is Jimmy Sposato, the proud principal of the Trojans reaching out with a summer update. Again, I welcome all of our 6th graders, or Year 1 students, to our community as well as any new 7th and 8th graders. If you are receiving this message and your child will not be attending East Garner Middle in the Fall, please contact the school at 919-662-2339 to update us on your plans. If you are hearing my voice for the first time then I welcome you to the East Garner Middle community. I will send these messages out weekly to keep you informed and engaged.
As a reminder all students will begin the school year in online instruction. The first two weeks of school for all students will focus on orientation and the distribution of supplies. Virtual Academy enrollment has closed and families will receive a confirmation email by Monday evening. Though we must do many things differently, we will vigorously and safely pursue our vision to foster a safe and equitable environment that values relationships, collaboration and high expectations developing lifelong learners, leaders (who are responsible global citizens). Families who requested a device through the technology survey will be contacted by the System to announce distribution dates and locations. We are not distributing devices at the school at this time.
I will hold a Virtual Information Session next Thursday at 2:00pm to review the opening of the school year plans and to answer questions. We will record the session for folks to view at a later time. Login information will be posted on the website.
7th Grade Families: No Extensions to Student Immunization and Health Assessment Requirements As of now, state lawmakers have not made any adjustments or exceptions to the immunization and health assessment requirements for students enrolled for face-to-face instruction or for the Virtual Academy. This includes requirements for kindergarteners, 7th graders, and seniors.
Be safe and have a great summer!
Jimmy Sposato, Principal
