Remote Learning Update 4/3/20

Good afternoon East Garner Magnet Middle School Families, this is Jimmy Sposato, the proud principal of the Trojans calling with your Remote update. Again, thank you to all of our community members in the healthcare field, police and fire/res, and who continue to keep groceries stores open and restaurants running.  I hope your families are healthy and well. If you are needing any resources during this time please check out Wake Network of Care. It is an online one-stop resource directory which allows one to locate needed services and supports throughout Wake County . wake.nc.networkofcare.org

Usually the Friday afternoon as we enter Spring Break is a celebration but it just does not feel like that today. Many families locally and across the nation and world are struggling.

You should have received an email today from the system outlining important topics such as grading plans for the 3rd and 4th quarter as well as Remote Learning Expectations. Please take a moment to digest all that information.

Device Distribution: WCPSS is working to gather devices to provide to families. We assessed our needs last week and are waiting for devices to be delivered to us. Once we have the devices we will reach out to families, who indicated a need, to set up a time for them to pick them up here at school.

Starting April 13, we will launch into a new phase of remote learning that will involve direct instruction of new material. Our goal is for this work to be clear, predictable and flexible. Our plan is for our website to be the launching point of this work as opposed to you getting individual notices from teachers.  Students will have the opportunity to view recorded instruction, interact with teachers in brief live sessions and complete work independently. They will work with two core subjects and two electives each day. We will share more information as we approach the 13th, with video instructions and models. We will hold live stream meetings to help you understand and be successful. The most important ingredient is student engagement. We will need your help with holding your kids to a high standard of participation and engagement. You can take a peek at our structure - Remote Learning Structure

Registration Update: Please visit the EGMMS student services website for information on how to register for your school courses. I know there has been some confusion for world language enrollment. We are automatically enrolling students in world language based on their current course. Any changes will have to be approved. The only electives you may see on PS are for the exploratory electives that are only a single quarter. The website is https://egmmsstudentservices.weebly.com/. Please view the registration videos for your rising grade level and register for your middle school courses in Powerschool.  Rising 8th graders will register for high school courses. Contact your grade level school counselors for questions.
