Good Afternoon East Garner Magnet Middle School Families, this is Jimmy Sposato, the proud principal of the Trojans calling with a summer updates. 


First off, if you are receiving this message and your child will not be attending East Garner Middle in the Fall, please contact the school at 919-662-2339 to update us on your plans and help your child get settled. If you are hearing my voice for the first time then I welcome you to the East Garner Middle community. I will typically send these calls out Sunday afternoon.


A couple of dates for you to note:

Year 1 Trojan Academy: August 19th from 5:00-7:30pm - 6th graders or Year 1 students. Don’t forget to join us Trojan Academy on August 19th. Schedules will be available for pick up beginning at 5pm in our gym and the formal program will begin at 5:30pm. We will introduce the kids to a daily life of a student, bus & car pool, breakfast & lunch procedures, and general success strategies for middle school. We will have parents information sessions at the same time as well. We will send out more information at the event nears. 


Year 2 and 3 Schedule Pick Up August 22nd - 4:00 -7:00pm: Year 2 and 3 students (7th and 8th graders), we will hold Schedule Pick Up/Open House for you on August 22nd from 4:00-7:00pm. This is a drop in program but you can work with representatives from Transportation, Child Nutrition, Athletics and afterschool programs. Students will also get a copy of their schedule on the first day of school if you are not able to join us.


Please make sure you come ready to join the PTSA. They are a key partner in supporting the learning here at East Garner Middle.

Dress Code: The school system has adopted a new dress code for the upcoming school year. Click Here Our intent is for kids to come to school with the mindset that they are coming to learn. 


New Schedule: As mentioned last Spring, we have adopted a new daily schedule that allows our kids to meet with core teachers everyday. This change will result in almost 30% more instructional time on core classes. We will have seven periods - four core, two electives and a guided study/lunch period. Students will continue to have four electives. Students will see a combination class, such 3-4, 4-5 or 5-6 on their schedules. One of the classes is the Guided Study/Lunch period and the other the actual class. Check out our website for more information and to see the actual schedule. 


Transportation: General Info. If you are eligible for transportation and your student's school assignment provides for neighborhood busing, you should have received information in the spring about transportation. Bus routes will be posted on August 16. If your child is eligible for transportation and want to make a change or you did not receive a post and/or phone call then you will need to request transportation. Students attending East Garner on a transfer are not eligible for transportation and can find more information on the website 


Student Athletes: Tryouts for Fall sports will begin when school begins so please make sure you have your physical done and all the forms complete. The tryout schedule will be posted soon. Athletic Forms.
