Principal's Weekly Message

Good afternoon Middle Creek High School families,

Thank you to all our students and families for a successful conclusion to this week.  Before jumping into the updates and reminders for next week, I want to extend a huge thank you to our community for your support through yesterday’s code red. This was an unsettling experience for us all, and we do not take lightly the trust you put in us and the worry you were experiencing.  Parents, you should know that your students did an excellent job adhering to the code red procedures. I want to reiterate that our school team, in conjunction with Cary PD and our district’s Security team, did an excellent job following up on a report and securing the situation quickly.  We were thorough and successful at obtaining what ended up being an airsoft gun and all the necessary school district consequences and law enforcement steps are being followed.  We have also had several debriefing sessions to look at ways to make things even better and safer.  Safety is and will always be our number one priority.

As a reminder, continue to encourage your students to share with school staff anytime they see or hear anything alarming or suspicious. As they continue to process things from this event, be also reminded that we have a phenomenal student services team who is here to support them if needed.

Below are our reminders & information for next week here at The Creek.

Information & Reminders:

Attendance for early check-out 4/27:

MCHS had many students check out after yesterday’s code red. Powerschool must reflect the student’s attendance on campus, so for now it is possible that your student’s record shows a 2A absence. Because of the volume of students released early, we will be working through our messages, emails, and checkout location data over the coming days in order to make updates official in powerschool.  We should have everyone’s attendance updated by the end of next week. Teachers were briefed yesterday to extend understanding and patience with students in the meantime.

Teacher Appreciation Week Coming: May 8th-12th:

We are excited to celebrate the teachers here at MCHS in the coming weeks. PTSA has some amazing things planned and needs your help! Please see the sign-up genius for ways to get involved and support the appreciation efforts.

Here is the link for Teacher Appreciation

In addition to these items, students will have the opportunity to write thank you notes during lunch on May 10th and 11th. We will share these notes with the teachers, but also use them as entries into drawings for prizes all day May 12th.  If you are willing to donate a gift card to our prize drawing we would GREATLY appreciate it.  We are looking for 12 $20-$25 gift cards for restaurants or stores (Target, Walmart, etc) that our teachers would enjoy.  Any donations can be dropped off at the front desk with “PTSA- Teacher Appreciation” on them.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Parent Survey is Open!

Please take the WCPSS Parent Survey!

Helping students do their best in school requires a team effort. Parents, students, and schools all play important roles in this process. Help us make student's school experience as positive and beneficial as possible by completing this survey.  The survey will stay open until May 12.

Seniors: Please report scholarships to Student Services!

Senior and senior families, we want to recognize seniors who have been awarded scholarships this year and include them on our Senior Scholarship Listing.  Please take a picture of the scholarship letters that you have received and email to Mrs. Mercado in Student Services at dmercado@wcpss.net.  Last year’s seniors received over $8 million in scholarships and we know the Class of 2023 will represent just as well!  Make sure to check our Scholarship listing page as we have posted several new available scholarships over the past few weeks.
