Principal's Weekly Message
Good evening Middle Creek High School families,
I hope that you all had a wonderful week and have some rest and relaxation planned for this long weekend. With Monday’s holiday, students will only have a four days of school. Our extra-curricular activities’ calendar is also fairly light next week, with the transition between winter and spring sports season. I do, however, want to highlight one important event that is next week: the 2023-2024 Registration/Curriculum event! Those details and more are provided below.
Information & Reminders:
Curriculum Night - February 22, 2023 - see flyer linked here:
Registering for classes is quickly approaching and we want our rising 9th-12th graders to be excited about their choices. Please check out the videos and information posted on the Student Services website here. The videos and information are a great resource to prepare you for the registration process at MCHS.
Also, we will also be hosting a Curriculum Night for families to come and ask questions, talk to teachers, and check out new and exciting electives.
Curriculum Night will be held on February 22nd:
6-7pm for rising 9th graders (Meeting with counselors regarding registration process at 6:45 in the Auditorium)
6:45-7:30pm for rising 10th-12th graders.
Cary Chamber’s 2023 Honor A Teacher Nominations due Today!
The Cary Chamber of Commerce has been a leader in supporting education in our community through numerous programs and activities, and has created a program to celebrate and honor one special teacher from each school: “Honor a Teacher Program”.
We are asking our community to nominate teachers for this award. Included with your nomination, please describe why you feel this particular teacher deserves this award. Nominations must be submitted no later than Friday, February 17 at 5:00pm.
Here is the link to the nomination form: https://forms.gle/73dpXwsWGcNqh2HX7
These nominations will then be narrowed down to finalists that will be interviewed by a designated committee. If you have any questions, please email Kelcey Ashworth, Vice President of Education & Member Business Services, at kashworth@carychamber.com.
Seniors:
Cap and Gown - If your senior has not purchased their cap and gown, please have them stop by the front office ASAP. Emails will be sent out directly to students who have not ordered yet, but it is very important to place this order as soon as possible.
Save the Date!
We are excited to share the date for our Class of 2023 Graduation!
Middle Creek Graduation will be at the Convention Center on Sunday, June 11th at 2:00pm. Graduation rehearsal will be June 6th and June 7th at MCHS. More information can be found in the Senior Handbook linked here. Please make sure to review and save these dates as Graduation Rehearsal is mandatory.
Information from Student Services:
Seniors: Please report scholarships to Student Services!
Senior and senior families, we want to recognize seniors who have been awarded scholarships this year and include them on our Senior Scholarship Listing. Please take a picture of the scholarship letters that you have received and email to Mrs. Mercado in Student Services at dmercado@wcpss.net. Last year’s seniors received over $8 million in scholarships and we know the Class of 2023 will represent just as well! Make sure to check our Scholarship listing page as we have posted several new available scholarships over the past few weeks.
Sophomore Counselor Meetings and Virtual Sophomore Parent Meeting
Counselors have begun meeting with all tenth grade students in small groups to talk about planning and preparing for the second half of high school. Students will receive their PreACT scores in these meetings and discuss how to read the scores and how to use the scores to prepare for the ACT that they will take in spring of their junior year. Student Services will host a virtual parent meeting with these topics on March 2, 2023 at 6 pm. The google meet code will be posted on the MCHS website that afternoon for any parents of tenth grade students who would like to attend.
Calendar:
Below are some of the events scheduled next week.
Wed, Feb. 22nd: Curriculum Night
Thurs, Feb. 23rd: Dessert and a Showcase- 7pm. (Auditorium)
That concludes my news for next week. I hope you all have a great long weekend!
Sincerely,
Lacey Peckham, Principal
