This week we kick off Quarter 2. It is also a “short” week, with some changes to the typical schedule. In consideration of Election Day, Tuesday is a Teacher Workday. Also, Thursday is an Early Release Day, and Friday we are off for Veteran’s Day. Thank you to all the servicemen and women in our community for your service!
Below are some updates and reminders that I hope will be helpful in keeping you informed.

Fall Fundraiser: Coming soon!:
Soon, the MCHS PTSA will kick off a new giving effort to support our teacher and club grant requests that enrich the Middle Creek student and academic experience. The first Strong Stable Giving campaign will run from Friday, Nov. 11 through Friday, Nov. 18. In addition to grant requests, this campaign will support other PTSA activities for the Middle Creek community.
During this eight-day campaign, we need YOU to make a difference in our Middle Creek community. Support the PTSA and help us support students and teachers. We need YOU to make our stable strong and give to the Strong Stable campaign. Stay tuned to donate!
PreACT for all 10th graders:
The PreACT will be administered to all 10th graders on Wednesday, November 16. Testing will take place on the third floor and will begin promptly at 7:25. Students will receive additional information through their homeroom teachers. Students need to bring two #2 pencils and a calculator on test day. See this link for a list of approved calculators. If your child does not have a calculator, they should make arrangements to borrow one from a math teacher in advance of November 16. Additional information about the PreACT can be found here. Any questions regarding the PreACT can be directed to Anna Carpenter, Testing Coordinator, at ascarpenter@wcpss.net.
Early Release Thursday
Thursday, November 10 is an early release day. Students will be dismissed 2 hours early so that teachers may participate in staff development. Students will still attend all 4 classes on Thursday, on modified schedule. Dismissal for the early release will be at 12:18. Students will be provided a bag lunch as they leave for the day, so it may be helpful to send snacks for them throughout the day. Breakfast will still be provided as normal. A period-by-period bell schedule can be referenced below:
Information from Student Services:
Freshman Meetings and Freshman Parent and Families Meeting
MCHS Counselors will be holding small group meetings with all ninth grade students during the month of October to discuss various topics related to having a successful ninth grade and high school career. Topics include calculating your GPA, understanding promotion requirements, and getting involved at MCHS. We would like to invite parents and families to a Freshman Parent Meeting on Thursday, November 17, where we will discuss with families these topics and how to support students throughout high school. Please join us at 6:00 in the MCHS Media Center for this important meeting, we hope to see you there!
AP Exam Opt-Out Forms
All students who are in a fall AP course have registered to take the AP exam. Students who do not wish to take the exam must turn in the AP Exam Opt-Out form that they received on Wednesday of this week by November 7 to Student Services. Students who want to take their exam do not need to take any further action at this time. All students are encouraged to take AP Exams and the College Board charges a $40 unused test fee for any student who orders an exam and does not take it in May. This is for fall AP courses only; this process will occur again in the second semester for spring AP courses.
