Principal's Weekly Message

Good evening Middle Creek High School families,

I hope everyone has enjoyed the  weekend. Thank you to all our families that stopped by our “Meet the Teacher” event last week. It was wonderful to have you all on-campus and in person.

Below are some updates and reminders for this week.

Information & Reminders:

Student Parking Security Reminders:

During the month of January, we unfortunately had a few reports of stolen property from the student parking lot. While we have increased our security and police surveillance of the lot, please help us by reminding your student to lock up their vehicle while on-campus each day. In each incident reported, the vehicle was unlocked, and securing student vehicles is an important security measure. If at any time a student has a security issue to report, please have them reach out to our SRO, Officer Nolin.

ACT: All Juniors:

All Juniors will participate in the ACT on Tuesday, March 1. Testing will begin promptly at 7:25. On test day, all students should bring:

  1. Photo ID

  2. Sharpened #2 Pencils

  3. An ACT Approved Calculator

Detailed information about taking the ACT can be found here. There will be an information session for all students on Tuesday, February 22. During that session, students will learn their specific testing location, complete demographic information on their answer documents, and create a MyACT account. ACT preparation materials can be found here.

Nominate a Teacher! “Honor a Teacher” Campaign:

Excellence in teaching – we know it when we see it. It can be the teacher who spends extra time with the students who need it most, or the teacher who is creative enough to inspire a real love of learning in a student. Whatever their methods, certain teachers make a real impact on students and their learning abilities.

The Cary Chamber of Commerce continues to support education in our community through numerous programs and activities. One of the most critical needs of Wake County schools is that of attracting and retaining the best classroom teachers. Through the Cary Chamber of Commerce's Honor a Teacher Program they hope to help our school system in meeting that challenge.

Members of the MCHS community have the opportunity to nominate deserving teachers for this award. Included with your nomination, please describe why you feel this particular teacher deserves this award. Nominations must be submitted no later than Friday, February 25 at 5:00pm. These nominations will then be narrowed down to finalists that will be interviewed by a designated committee.

If you have any questions, please email Kelcey Ashworth, Vice President of Education & Member Business Services, at kashworth@carychamber.com.

The nomination form is linked here: 2022 Honor a Teacher Nomination Form

Project Uplift Summer Experience at UNC Applications will open soon for Juniors

Project Uplift is a summer enrichment and college access program designed to promote and increase access to higher education for all outstanding students, especially those underrepresented in post-secondary education. Every year, during May and June, approximately 1,000 high school seniors participate in one of four separate Project Uplift sessions. Traditionally, this is a two-day experience, Project Uplift participants live on Carolina’s campus, interacting with faculty, staff, and current students, participating in educational, cultural, and social activities. Project Uplift Scholars have the opportunity to immerse themselves in college life and experience the academic rigor and social climate of a four-year institution.  For more information and to apply to Project Uplift and be considered for Uplift Plus, please click on the link below.  Applications will open soon for Summer 2022!
