Principal's Message- Summer Edition
Greetings Middle Creek High School families,
This is Lacey Peckham, Principal of Middle Creek HS with another summer edition of my weekly updates.
This week’s email is relatively brief with only a few updates and requests that need to be on our families’ radar.
Technology Survey: Needs for 2020-2021
All families with a student in K-12 need to complete this survey for each student in their household. This survey should be completed regardless of your school, whether you have applied to the Virtual Academy, whether you have a device or whether you need a device. This short survey will help WCPSS better understand the needs of the students and make sure that they are able to meet those needs.
Survey must be completed by July 29th.
As of now, we will be operating under “Transitional Plan B” which has been approved by WCPSS Board of Education. All families should have received details about the plan last week, via an email from WCPSS.
MCHS will be following the WCPSS Transitional Plan B option, with all students starting the year remotely. The first 2 groups of students that will be entering WCPSS buildings face to face are Extended Content Classrooms and pre-K programs, starting no earlier than Sept 8th. All other students who selected Plan B, or did not select Virtual Academy, will continue remotely, and stay tuned for information from the district on how groups, cohorts, etc. will begin transitioning into the building later in September.
If you did not enroll in the Virtual Academy and would like to, or you would like to make changes to your previous enrollment in Virtual Academy, you have one more window to do so: July 27th-29th. For Middle Creek HS, the contact is Tara Gillespie, Dean of Students, at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please keep in mind that although all students are starting remotely, Plan B students could be re-entering the building as soon as the end of September. The school will be unable to make any changes to student preferences after the July 29th date.
Currently, MCHS has 680 students enrolled in Virtual Academy, which accounts for approximately 35% of the student population.
For more information about the Virtual Academy, visit the website below, or use the link to watch the “Open House” video that is archived.
School staff is still working to meet the needs of the students in both settings, and to honor staffing restrictions and preferences. Families should anticipate that schedules will not be finalized until August 10th at the earliest. However, next week I will be able to share the daily “bell” schedule MCHS will be using for both Remote Learning and our Virtual Academy- so stay tuned!
9th Grade Orientation:
MCHS is eagerly working out plans for new student & 9th grade orientations. We will likely have some virtual information to share in the coming weeks, and are examining the feasibility of on-campus, or virtual small group opportunities in August. Once we have more details solidified, we will be sure to communicate them with you. We are excited to share all of the wonderful things about MCHS with you and help our 9th graders feel prepared and excited for their start of high school. 9th grade families will have the opportunity to come by the school and pick-up schedules on August 12th- so save that date, and times will be published in the coming weeks.
Rising Senior Class 2020-2021 Information:
Mid-Year Graduation & Senior Schedule Information:
We are still accepting forms for Seniors who would like to graduate Mid Year and/or have Early Release-Late Arrival. Please click on the link below to download either of these forms. Completed forms can be emailed to Mrs. Gillespie at email@example.com. If you are unable to print, please email Mrs. Gillespie with your request and state that you agree to the statements on the forms and provide the needed information and we can use your email confirmation in lieu of the form. Please email Mrs. Gillespie with any questions.
Vaccine Requirement for Rising Seniors!
For the 2020-2021 school year, there is another immunization that all 12th graders must have. Please use the link below for more details, as we have over 200 seniors who still need their immunizations.
It is important for families to complete the requirement before school starts, as any 12th graders who do not have the documented immunization will be unable to attend. All updated immunization records can be scanned/photographed and emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org, mailed into the school, or turned in to our Student Services Office on Thursdays from 9-12.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Berry at email@example.com
That concludes my updates and reminders for this week. I hope you have a wonderful last week of July!
Lacey Peckham, Principal
