Principal's Weekly Message
Greetings Middle Creek High School families,
I hope you have all had a great first week of June. As we close out this year, I want to take another opportunity to express my gratitude to our community for your support and patience throughout our remote learning phase of this school year. Finishing the year on a positive note, with all the changes, uncertainty, and new ways of doing things takes a group effort, and we very much appreciate your support.
Before we head into our last weekend of school, I have just a few updates and reminders.
Again, we will start with some general information for all students, then end with Senior-specific information & reminders.
Grade Information for Students 9-11:
As mentioned in NCDPI and WCPSS policy, students in grade 9-11 may request a numeric grade in place of the PC19/WC19 grade for Semester 2. Teachers have finalized grades in powerschool this week so that families are fully informed of the exact numeric grade available for Semester 2. If a family would like to choose the numeric grade instead of defaulting to the PC19/WC19, they will need to complete the Request form linked below.
Forms should be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed into the school and they are due by Friday, June 12th at 5:00pm.
If you are unable to print the form out, feel free to email the address above with your request, and a member of the Student Services staff will get in touch to verify the information.
Sports Block At Home Edition:
The Middle Creek Sports Block crew has been hard at work during this school closure! For your viewing pleasure they have released several "At Home" editions that I am excited to share with you- in case you are missing sports, and sports talk as much as I am! Check out their work and prepare to be impressed.
Here are links to the first and most recent episodes of this series:
Due to the circumstances of the past few months, the production and delivery of yearbooks has been delayed. They are currently finishing up production at the warehouse and will be delivered to the school in early July. As soon as they are en route to the school, we will be in touch with families about scheduling a pick up. Thank you for your patience.
Senior Class Celebration & Graduation Information:
The Middle Creek High School virtual graduation will be broadcast on June 12th at 12:00pm. This will include aspects of the traditional graduation program including student and principal speeches, the turning of tassels, and the calling of each senior’s name. There will also be a senior photo slideshow at the end.
The ceremony will be aired "live" on the WCPSS YouTube channel and the link is provided below so that you can bookmark it ahead of time!
(The MCHS ceremony will air at 12:00pm on June 12th.)
It will also be available after that time if that’s more convenient for families and will be available for families to save the video.
Middle Creek High School Diploma Recognition:
In addition to the virtual graduation, Middle Creek HS is offering students the opportunity to receive their diploma on-campus, where they will get one last walk through the commons and have several special photo opportunities. Because we know many students and families were looking forward to celebrating graduation with a walk across the stage, acceptance of diploma, and having their name read by school staff, we will be hosting an on-site diploma ceremony on June 9th and 10th, following the schedule below.
June 9th- 9:00-11:30 Students with last name A-Di
June 9th- 2:00-4:30 Students with last name Do-La
June 10th- 9:00-11:30 Students with last name Le-Ri
June 10th- 2:00-4:30 Students with last name Ro-Z
Seniors should arrive in their full cap and gown, and will be allowed to bring 2 guests with them. Students & guests can stop by the school any time during the time frame designated by last name. We are excited to celebrate this moment with you!
Attached is a document outlining the procedures we will be following and safety precautions that will be in place. Thank you so much to all our Senior families for your understanding of our attempt to balance a meaningful student experience with the safety restrictions currently in place with the district and State.
If you are a senior family who does not want to participate in the “walk-through” acceptance of diploma, there will be a drive-up pick up time scheduled for June 16th.
Video Memento: As is tradition at MCHS, all seniors will be gifted with a special video at the end of the year. This will include graduation speeches, remarks from staff, and a slideshow of our seniors, including future plans and thank yous. We are excited to share this with each senior once they are complete!
Senior Scholarship Reporting:
Student Services is continuing to compile a list of scholarships offered to students of the Class of 2020. If you have not reported all of your scholarship offers, please email email@example.com so that your information can be added and reported on the recognition of scholarship handout at the Diploma Pick-Up! All information is due by Sunday 6/7 in order to be included on the recognition sheet.
That concludes my updates and reminders for this week.
I wish you all a safe and wonderful weekend.
