Greetings Middle Creek High School Families,
Happy Friday to all of our families! Before we head into a beautiful long weekend, I have some updates and reminders. This is a rather lengthy email, with important information for various grade levels, so please read through it carefully.
We will start with some updates and reminders for our seniors.
Senior Class Celebration & Graduation Information:
The Middle Creek High School Virtual Graduation will be broadcast on June 12th at 12:00pm. This will include aspects of the traditional graduation program, including student and principal speeches, the turning of tassels, and the calling of each senior’s name. Closer to the graduation broadcast date, we will share avenues to access the ceremony via the school website. It will also be available after that time if that’s more convenient for families and will be available for families to save the video.
As a part of the virtual graduation, each student will have a slide that shows their senior portrait, has their name, and also shares if they are an honor graduate and/or a NC Scholar. Students will have a brief opportunity to review their slide and suggest updates and to verify content. Students have received an email to their WCPSS email account giving them access to an online portal to review their information. Specifically,
We will be using your senior portrait. If you choose to use another photo, you will need to log into the portal to make that change.
If you prefer not to have your photo / name used in the slideshow, please let your principal know.
The portal will close on May 22 (today!) at 6pm.
Middle Creek High School Diploma Recognition:
In addition to the virtual graduation, Middle Creek HS is offering students the opportunity to receive their diploma on-campus with a little “pomp and circumstance.” Because we know many students and families were looking forward to celebrating graduation with a walk across the stage, acceptance of diploma, and having their name read by school staff, we will be hosting an on-site diploma ceremony on June 9th and 10th, following the schedule below.
June 9th- 9:00-11:30 Students with last name A-Di
June 9th- 2:00-4:30 Students with last name Do-La
June 10th- 9:00-11:30 Students with last name Le-Ri
June 10th- 2:00-4:30 Students with last name Ro-Z
Seniors will be allowed to bring 2 guests with them, and can participate any time within the time frame designated by last name. We are excited to celebrate this moment with you! More specifics related to parking, movement, and safety will be coming next week.
***If you are a senior family who does not want to participate in the “walk-through” acceptance of diploma, there will be a pick up time scheduled for June 16th.
Senior Video Keepsake: As is tradition at MCHS, all seniors will be gifted with a special video at the end of the year. This will include graduation speeches, remarks from staff, and a slideshow of our seniors, including future plans and thank yous. We are excited to share this with each senior once they are complete!
Senior Awards Ceremony:
Just a reminder: We will still be hosting our annual Senior Awards Night event on May 28th! This event will be virtual, and we look forward to celebrating some of the special awards that our Class of 2020 graduates have received. A link to view the event will be shared via our website and a message from the principal at 6:30pm on May 28th.
Below is some information I would like to highlight for Families of students 9th-11th graders.
The counselors are continuing to offer great information to all students in Forward-Thinking Videos and resources through Friday emails to students.
This week's Forward Thinking Friday message has several great resources we thought parents would want to know! See below for this week’s topics:
Mr. Ruggiero discusses some scheduling options for you as you plan your high school path
Mrs. Gillespie discusses how to calculate your GPA and some thoughts on taking numeric grades or P/W this spring
We hope these are helpful to our students and families!
Virtual Career Fair 2020:
Career Development Coordinators across Wake County have worked together to create an awesome virtual resource for our students. Juniors have already received the email, but we wanted to share it with any interested parents as well.
Link provided below:
If you are a family in need of support during this uncertain time, WCPSS may be able to help. There are a number of food distribution sites up and running in Wake County during this closure. If you need more information, or if you are looking for ways to help, please visit the link below for information.
Special Note: In observance of Memorial Day, food services will be canceled on Monday, May 25. Most weekend food service sites will still operate on a normal schedule Memorial Day Weekend.
That concludes my updates and reminders for the week. Thank you for your attention to all of these details. A quick reminder that there will be no remote learning activities on Monday as it is Memorial Day Holiday.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend! We look forward to seeing our students next Tuesday!
