Save the Date for Meet the Team Presentations-- We will hold team orientation sessions on Friday August 14th. Students will be able to access their homeroom and team assignments on Powerschools beginning August 13th. These sessions will offer an opportunity for learners and parents to meet their team of teachers and get information to start the year. We will record the sessions if you are not able to attend. Meeting links will be posted on August 13th. Students will be required to log into the meetings through their WakeID accounts. We will not admit unknown participants into the live sessions. You will be available to view the session via a live stream as well that does not require a WCPSS account.

      • Students will have opportunities for individual conferences with their teachers during the orientation weeks.
      • Parents will have the opportunity to meet with teachers in a small virtual setting during the month of August.
  • New Bell Schedule for 2020-2021 School Year--We have had to adjust our schedule and elective offering in light of the unique situation. After much deliberation and consideration, our leadership team settled on what we felt was the safest and most equitable schedule considering our situation. We are going to run a schedule that offers one extended elective a day on an A/B schedule. This will decrease the number of electives for the year to four. Students will continue to have access to all core IB content areas for more than 50 hours over the year.
    • We struggled with finding a way to safely offer access to 2 electives a day on an A/B schedule while maintaining cohort integrity, monitoring student interactions and offering virtual/remote instruction. We are more comfortable with transitioning kids one time during the day when we return to campus.  Our instructional time was further squeezed by the addition of the one hour open lunch block requirement so kids can access lunch service at school. Shortening core instruction would require kids to complete more work outside of the instructional day, which is an equity issue as not every kid has access to an expert in the home.
    • One of the complaints we had during remote learning last year was trying to manage 8 classes in a virtual environment. The trend was for students/families to disengage from the electives to focus on core classes. This option drops the load to 6 classes and we will hopefully maintain engagement.
