Weekly Update 9/22/23

  • FALL BREAK

The first quarter has officially ended! Students return to school for the second quarter on Tuesday, October 10th, 2023. Report Cards will be sent home on that date as well. We hope everyone has a fun, restful break.

Please continue to have your child read for at least 20 minutes daily with you or independently. Reading promotes vocabulary understanding, increases your child’s communication skills, and is directly linked to future financial and academic success.

    Building Procedures

All visitors, volunteers, etc., must check in using the Verkada system when entering the building. A QR code will be posted on the outside door for your convenience. You may use this QR code to check in and check out. When arriving at school-wide or grade-level events, please have your ID ready as it is required for checking in to the building and arrive a few minutes early. This will allow time to get to the event when it begins. A picture of your ID on your phone will register with the system and would eliminate the need to carry both.

We love seeing all of you here to support students and PMES!!

    Student Arrival

Many students are arriving close to 8:30 a.m. or are tardy. Consider arranging the morning to allow your child to get to school closer to 8:00 a.m. Instruction begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. Teachers are ready to work with students at 8:00 a.m. and use that arrival time to focus on specific individual needs. It is valuable time. When students arrive earlier, they are less rushed, can unpack, eat breakfast if needed, and focus on learning at 8:30 a.m.

    Student Check-Out Procedures

PMES is experiencing many students being checked out at the last part of the day. In order to ensure students receive all academic instruction, we are asking you to please not check out students between the 2:30–3:00 p.m. time frame unless for emergencies to protect their instructional time.

    Transportation Changes

Please notify your child’s teacher through Talking Points by noon or when you know of a transportation change. If you do not have a teacher's response by 2:30 p.m., then please call the office with information about this change. We are trying to eliminate as many classroom instruction interruptions as possible.

    Enrollment for 2024-2025 School Year

Spread the word. Registration for WCPSS begins on October 16th. This includes any rising K or new students to the area.

Note: Early College applications and the Magnet Application window open on this date.

Please note: Rising Kindergarten students with a sibling at PMES must register at their base school first and then complete the magnet application.

    Frolic: Thank you, PTA!

Frolic was a fantastic event! It could not have happened without the countless volunteers who helped to plan, organize, and run this school-wide annual event. Volunteers spent so many hours making this event a special one. PMES students and staff are very grateful for their dedication to ensuring this experience was great. THANK YOU PTA!
