We are so excited about beginning our 25th school year as a WCPSS school!

The first day of school officially begins for grades 1-5 students on Monday, July 24th.

 

Please Note: Kindergarten students will attend one designated day for staggered entry during the first week of school. Please get in touch with the office to inquire if you are unsure of your child’s staggered entry date. 

 

Kindergarten students will start school every day beginning July 31st. 

 

Medications

Please bring in any student medication to be signed in next week beginning on

Tuesday, July 19th - Friday, the 22nd, with a completed 1702 form. This will avoid waiting in line to sign in medication with the front office staff as the first week of school is hectic. Thank you!

 

Meet the Teacher 

Meet the Teacher will be held on Thursday, July 20th, from 12 pm - 2 pm for Grades 1-5. Please drop in during that time frame to meet your child’s teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. Then, visit the playground to enjoy a popsicle treat while you and your child reconnect with friends. 

 

WCPSS Transportation and Child Nutrition Services representatives will be on hand to answer any questions. Spanish interpreters will be available.

 

Please note: 

Kindergarten Meet the Teacher will be held on Friday, July 28th, from 9 am - 10 am. Spanish interpreters will be available.

 

Popsicles on the Playground

Kindergarten Parents/Students: Please join the Kindergarten team on July 18th from 3:00-4:00 pm to enjoy some play time on the playground, meet staff, and cool down with a popsicle. This is an excellent opportunity to meet other parents and for your children to begin developing relationships with their peers. 

 

Visitor/Guest Procedures

Visitors and/or guests to PMES will be asked to identify themselves and the purpose of their visit through the intercom after ringing the doorbell. You will also need to sign in and out using the new WCPSS system, Verkada, and wear a Visitor sticker which needs to be visible on your person to identify yourself as an approved guest. These are precautionary measures to ensure we continue to provide a safe environment for our students and staff. 

 

Supply Lists

You can access school supply lists on the PMES website under the grade level in which your child is in by clicking on the Student tab and scrolling to the Supply List tab. Please have your child bring supplies on the first day of school.  Supply List Link 

 

Transportation

Please be sure your child is registered for bus transportation. If you are requesting an alternate stop for before/after school care, you must complete the request process each school year.  WCPSS Transportation Request Link

 

Before/After School Care 

If you are interested in your child attending either or both the Before/After School programs at PMES, registration will be held from 9:00 am - 11:00 am on July 20th in the multipurpose room. More program information is on the PMES website under the parent section tab. Registration fills up quickly. Please email dhardy@wcpss.net with any specific questions that still need to be answered that are not on the website.

 

A check or money order for $15 per program sign-up is required to secure spots in the programs. Cash can not be accepted. You may print the registration form online or complete a paper copy at PMES during registration. Staffing Updates

Please welcome Merrylee Funes as the new Lead Secretary/Bookkeeper in the front office. She comes to PMES with a wealth of experience. Her previous position before moving to Raleigh this summer was as a school secretary in Louisiana for six years. Merrylee is also bilingual and speaks Spanish fluently. We are pleased to have her join our school community. 

 

Meghan Skalski will join the third-grade team this school year. She has 10 years of teaching experience and is transferring to PMES from Carpenter Elementary. We are very excited to have her as part of our staff. 

 

Monica Hennessy, Speech Pathologist, will join the Special Education team. She is transitioning from another region in WCPSS to PMES. We welcome her to the team.
