Mr. Marlin Jones, 22-23 Broughton Teacher of the Year!

Please join us in congratulating our 22-23 Broughton Teacher of the Year, Mr. Marlin Jones!

Marlin Jones has been teaching for 24 years, 7 of which have been at Broughton. He has taught a wide range of courses at BHS, including: AP World History, American History, American History 1, American History 2, African American Studies. As a teacher leader at Broughton, Mr. Jones has served as: both the American History and AP World History PLT leader; co-leader of the Action for Equity Team; and co-advisor of Teen Perfection.

His favorite thing about Broughton is his colleagues, which he says are “clearly the best” in Wake County where people have a true “care and concern” for one another. His favorite thing about teaching is our students. He says he loves to see students reach their goals, and that it is “a great honor to teach and mentor young people.”

When asked why he chooses to be an educator, Mr. Jones states, “I have always had the ability to work with others when it comes to education. In high school, I tutored and helped my friends pass geometry and chemistry. I was the chemistry lab tech assistant who helped prepare the experiments with the teacher. However, I did not recognize this gift and ability until after I started my first job teaching middle school at East Millbrook. I originally had a plan to teach only 2-3 years and go to law school until I realized how much I enjoyed working with students and the impact that I was having.”
