MathCounts Team Wins 1st Place

The MATHCOUNTS Team did very well Saturday at the state meet in Carrboro, NC.

The 4-person Team, consisting of Jerry Zhao,   Benjamin Wu,   Melody Wen  and  Aditya Sundaram, 8th graders,

took 1st place.

There were a total of 36 schools, each with a 4-person team.

Due to scoring well at regionals, 8th graders Sahil Pontula & Aakash Kothapally participated as Individuals.

Jerry Zhao took 1st place based on his individual score overall.

Benjamin Wu took 2nd place based on his individual score overall

Those 4 individuals will represent the State of NC at National Competition in Washington, DC in April.

Mrs. Chapoton-Genna, along with much help from L. Chen (parent to 2 former Carnage students who went to Nationals)

& H. Reiter (coach from Randolph County who is very involved with MATHCOUNTS competitions in NC) will work with the 4 students over the next month to insure a strong presence at April's meet.

Thank you to Angela Deng, former Carnage student now at the NCSSM who took time over

a few weekends to help coach our 4-person team.

Thank you to the extremely supportive parents of our students

and to our students past and present teachers at Carnage who helped make today's success happen.
