This is Principal Newkirk with the update for the week of February 7, 2020
The Week in Review
Monday will mark the 103rd day of school for the 2019-2020 school year! We will have 77 more school days before summer break. The finish line is in sight and it is time for everyone to refocus and sprint to the finish line. In the classrooms teachers administered
Istation reading assessments in grades K-3 and our 4th and 5th graders took the Illuminate Reading Benchmark. K-2 students will begin NKT assessments to evaluate progress in math this week. Teachers are busy collecting data and creating learning plans based on the student data. Make sure you conference with your child’s teacher to find out how well your child is performing based upon the standard. With time running short, we all need to collaborate and work together to grow our students.
Makeup day for February 7
We have enough instructional hours in our schedule to avoid making up the missed day of school on February 7. Students will not need to make up this time and our spring break has not been affected.
Student Led Conferences
Every child in the building should be holding a Student led conference here at school. Students will share work from their digital portfolios and share their individual growth. If you have not been contacted by your child’s teacher about the Student Led Conference you should speak with the teacher.
It’s time to register your young ones for kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year. You can begin the process online at the link here or you may follow the link on the Zebulon Elementary website, http://www.wcpss.net/Zebulones.
Parents, the most important event scheduled to help you support your child’s math performance and math growth is our Math Night scheduled for February 13. Even if your child is a high performing student in math, it is still important that these students continue to grow from year to year. (Speak with your child’s teacher to learn about your child’s growth scores)
