November 30

 Principal Update

Hello Zebulon Elementary Families,

This is Principal Newkirk with the update for the week of November 30, 2018.

Zebulon Tree Lighting

The Zebulon GT Magnet Elementary Advanced Band will perform at the Zebulon Tree Lighting December 1. The band performance will begin at 4:00 PM. Join your ZES friends for some holiday cheer and fellowship at the Zebulon Tree Lighting. Several student groups will be represented during the Christmas Parade December 2.

Canned Food Drive

Please take some time to register to volunteer in Wake County Public Schools. The last day to register without a long delay in processing is December 15. We always need parent volunteers, especially to serve as field trip chaperones. I nearly had to cancel a few field trips because we did not have enough volunteer approved parent chaperones.

Zebulon Students have PRIDE!

Ask your child about PRIDE behavior. A continuing part of our efforts to teach students to be responsible for their own behavior, we have implemented a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program. The PRIDE acronym stands for prepared, respect, integrity, display self-control, effort. Teachers utilize a universal lesson plan to teach all students the meanings of those terms across all settings of the school. You will see a chart in the cafeteria with the PRIDE matrix for the cafeteria. We have a matrix for the gym, hallways, restrooms, playground, classroom, and dismissal. Thus far we have reduced disciplinary behaviors by 55%! Every day, ask your child how (s)he has shown PRIDE at school.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found is overflowing with coats, sweaters, and hats. Feel free to stop in any morning to check for lost clothing items.

Family Academy

At the beginning of the year parents were asked to commit to attending 5 out of 6 Family Academy parent workshops. So far, we have hosted 2 of those family academies and attendance at both has been very low. On December 11 we will have our 3rd Family Academy meeting. For those of you who signed up to attend, we hope to see you then. We will serve pizza in the cafeteria at 5:30 PM and childcare will be available.
