Tips to Prepare for Test Days
- Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep on nights before testing.
- Encourage your child to eat breakfast (at home or free at school).
- Remind your child to do his/her best and offer positive reinforcement for effort over performance.
- Be aware of signs of stress (stomachache, headache, acting out, etc.).
- Help your child relieve stress by talking, playing, and/or exercising together.
- Encourage positive self-talk and belly-breathing.
- Set realistic expectations about the outcome of the test and avoid over-emphasizing the importance of a single test.
- Encourage your child to use the time allowed (2 hours, plus 1 extra hour if needed) to read and think carefully and to check over his/her answers.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact your child’s teacher or Elizabeth Johnson, Testing Coordinator, at ejohnson1@wcpss.net
