Tips to Prepare for Test Days

  • Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep on nights before testing.
  • Encourage your child to eat breakfast (at home or free at school).
  • Remind your child to do his/her best and offer positive reinforcement for effort over performance.
  • Be aware of signs of stress (stomachache, headache, acting out, etc.).
  • Help your child relieve stress by talking, playing, and/or exercising together.
  • Encourage positive self-talk and belly-breathing.
  • Set realistic expectations about the outcome of the test and avoid over-emphasizing the importance of a single test.
  • Encourage your child to use the time allowed (2 hours, plus 1 extra hour if needed) to read and think carefully and to check over his/her answers.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact your child’s teacher or Elizabeth Johnson, Testing Coordinator, at
