Welcome Future Kindergarteners!
We are looking forward to welcoming your child to Kindergarten here at Washington Gifted and Talented Magnet Elementary School! It is going to be a great year full of learning, friends, and new discoveries. Below are some important dates which we would like you to be aware of as you are planning for the start of the school year.
Staggered Entry: During this week, your child will come to school for just one day, on their
assigned day. They will meet all the kindergarten teachers this day and participate in lunch, recess, and
some academic activities. This allows an easier transition to the school day for your child.
From 8:50am -2:00pm, Monday through Wednesday
Supervision is available until 3:50pm dismissal if a student needs to ride the bus or dismiss with a sibling.
Students only need to bring: snack, lunch or $3.00 to buy lunch.
Please do not bring school supplies on your assigned day.
Staggered day is based on student’s last name:
Letters A-G Monday, August 29
Letters H-N Tuesday, August 30
Letters O-Z Wednesday, August 31
Meet the Teacher Session: Kindergarten Meet the Teacher is on the Friday of staggered entry, September 2 from 11:00am-12:00pm.Students find out their teacher for the year and parents get more specific information about the school year and classroom schedules. Please plan on completing paperwork on this day for your child’s teacher, and finalizing carpool or bus tags if you haven’t done so already.Parents may bring supplies during Meet the Teacher (posted on our website and mailed out this summer).
Official First Day of School: Kindergarten kicks off the official year on a different date than the
rest of school. Your child’s first official day in his/her classroom will be Tuesday, September 6.
Please plan on providing information this day to let us know how your child is going home for the week and rest of the school year. Send lunch or set up lunch money account for this day, and student may also bring a snack
for snack time. Also please keep spare clothing in your child’s bookbag. Students can also bring school supplies this day. Our Kindergarten Supply list will be posted on the Washington school website this summer.
Kindergarten Orientation: Here is the presentation from our Kindergarten Orientation session held in May.
We know that this is a very exciting time for you and your child. Please note, all dates and information are
subject to change, based on evolving legislative mandates.
Looking forward to working with you in the future! Have a wonderful summer!
