2/8/21 Family Update
Hunter GT / AIG Magnet Elementary Virtual Monday Folder
Week of February 8th
What Week Is It:
Hunter GT / AIG Magnet Elementary School Updates
The Wake County Board of Education approved a plan Tuesday evening calling for students not enrolled in the Virtual Academy to begin returning to schools the week of February 15. The plan calls for the following:
- Pre-K through third grade: Daily in-person instruction beginning on February 17.
- Grades 4 and 5: Three-week rotations. Students on Track 2 (Cohort B) will begin on February 17. We will send a reminder to our 4th and 5th grade families this week to confirm their assigned cohort.
- Middle and High School: Three-week rotations
- Special Education Regional Programs, K-12: Daily in-person instruction
These next few weeks will be exciting as we welcome some families back to campus while continuing to work with others virtually. Our staff has worked hard to minimize transitions and ensure strong relationships with ALL students so that we can support them through these upcoming changes. Please remember that although we are excited that some students will be back with us in person, we are also committed to continue to offer an outstanding virtual experience to our Virtual Academy students. We value all of our students, no matter how they’re receiving instruction. Please reach out if we can be supportive of your family in any way.
WCPSS will communicate with families directly each day as we prepare to welcome students back on campus on Wednesday, Feb 17. Please carefully review this information, and let us know if you have any questions!
BackPack Buddies Continuing Distribution: The backpack buddies' program is a free service to help families with food shortages. At this time, we will deliver bi-weekly bags starting Friday, February 12th. A bag full of nutritious foods will be sent home with every student enrolled in the program. Families will be notified the week of Feb 8th about delivery/pick-up options. There will be enough food in each bag to last the weekend for your child. If you are interested in participating in the program, please complete the following form Click Here. All responses will be kept confidential.
Please also note, if your family has a food shortage anytime during the school year, whether you are enrolled in the BackPack Buddies program or not, we can help! Thank you for completing this form and should you have any questions please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.

Yearbook: We are still accepting photos of 5th graders. We hope to have a picture of every 5th grader. It doesn't have to be portrait quality, any picture of your child's face will work. Currently we have 50 out of about 100 kids. To send a photo, either use the Google form here or email the photo, child's name and what your child might like to be when they grow up to email@example.com.
Yearbook Poetry Contest: This year the Yearbook Committee will be holding a Poetry Contest for grades 3-5. Winners and runners up will have their poems published in this year’s yearbook. The theme of the poems should be “What I Love The Most About Hunter”. This could be general, like the feeling you get at school, or specific, like an elective or teacher. Parents, please inform your child about this contest and help them submit their poem to firstname.lastname@example.org by Tuesday, February 16th. Each submission should have a first and last name and the child’s grade. Poems will be reviewed by the yearbook committee and members of school administration. Contest results will be published in the VMF.
