Free and Reduced Lunch Application: Parents, please consider applying for meal benefits by Feb 26. For every student that turns in the free and reduced lunch application and qualifies, the school receives federal funds that benefit the student and teachers at the school. These funds provide additional teachers and staff for the school which means more services for students, especially students that are struggling in reading or math. These funds are also used for materials and supplies for students and teachers. These are valuable resources that teachers can use to improve student achievement.
Yes, meals will still be free for all students through June, 2021 but we still need you to complete a meal benefits application so our school can be eligible for this extra funding next year. Information about applying for Meal Benefits for the 2020-21 school year can be found at www.wcpss.net/Page/1849 . Help our school continue to receive this funding by completing an application online at MySchoolApps.com. Paper applications can be requested by calling 919-588-3535.
BackPack Buddies Continuing Distribution: The backpack buddies' program is a free service to help families with food shortages. At this time, we will deliver bi-weekly bags starting Friday, February 12th. A bag full of nutritious foods will be sent home with every student enrolled in the program. Families will be notified the week of Feb 8th about delivery/pick-up options. There will be enough food in each bag to last the weekend for your child. Substitute Recruitment Resources: “Our district has recently launched a campaign to recruit substitute teachers. Our subs receive training, work flexible hours and earn bi-weekly pay and incentives based on the number of jobs they pick up. Advocacy: Hunter is partnering with Ligon and Moore Square to distribute food boxes from Interfaith Food Shuttle on Fridays at Chavis Park beginning Friday, February 5th between 2:00-4:30. If your family is interested in receiving a food box, please complete the form attached here and return to school, mail to Ligon (address is on form), or bring the form with you to distribution on Friday. Labels & Offers: Box Tops for Education: Help raise money for Hunter by downloading the Box Tops app and scanning receipts everytime you shop for groceries. If you've moved to shopping online for grocery pick up or delivery, check out this video for instructions on how to get credit for Box Tops on those orders: https://youtu.be/ZfUGb_3JzZg
Publix Partners: You can also support Hunter when you shop at Publix. Visit this link for instructions to link your Publix account to supporting Hunter. (Hint: It's easiest to find Hunter by searching for zip code 27601.)
Yearbook: We are still accepting photos of 5th graders. We hope to have a picture of every 5th grader. It doesn't have to be portrait quality, any picture of your child's face will work. Currently we have 50 out of about 100 kids. To send a photo, either use the Google form here or email the photo, child's name and what your child might like to be when they grow up to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Yearbook Poetry Contest: This year the Yearbook Committee will be holding a Poetry Contest for grades 3-5. Winners and runners up will have their poems published in this year’s yearbook. The theme of the poems should be “What I Love The Most About Hunter”. This could be general, like the feeling you get at school, or specific, like an elective or teacher. Parents, please inform your child about this contest and help them submit their poem to email@example.com by Tuesday, February 16th. Each submission should have a first and last name and the child’s grade. Poems will be reviewed by the yearbook committee and members of school administration. Contest results will be published in the VMF.
Yoga: Virtual Yoga has MOVED to Tuesdays!! Join Kelly each Tuesday morning from 8:30-9:00am. Please refer to your VMF email or call the office for information to join the Zoom meeting.
Sidewalk Chalk Competition: We are THRILLED to announce that we will be conducting our first EVER school and community wide juried SIDEWALK CHALK COMPETITION March 10 & 11, 2021! Specific details announced soon, including theme, prizes, categories and more!

PTA Nominations: It is already that time to begin thinking about next year! Please consider if you’d like to join the PTA leadership in some capacity. No efforts are too small! We are hopeful that 2021-2022 will be a fantastic school year, and we can’t do it without your gifts and talents. The VMF is a weekly joint communication from Hunter GT / AIG Magnet Elementary and the Hunter PTA. Our VMF will be digitally shared with families on Monday and serves as a single resource for families to understand all that is happening in our school community. Archived VMFs are available on the Hunter website. Paper copies of the VMF are available by contacting the Hunter Office.
