Hunter GT / AIG Magnet Elementary School Updates
Thank You -- On behalf of our entire school staff, we would like to offer our sincere thanks to the Hunter community for the very kind holiday presents. Thank you for including each member of our Hunter staff community, and please know how very much your generosity is appreciated.
WCPSS School Board Approves Remote Instruction for All Students Jan. 4-15 2021 - The Wake County Board of Education voted tonight to move all students to remote instruction from January 4-15. This decision was made due to the impact of an increased number of COVID-19 infections in Wake County. Students who have been participating in Virtual Academy can expect a very similar experience as has been customary prior to Winter Break. In Person students will receive a schedule for January 4th - 15th from their grade level teams. More information from the district can be found here. All grade level teams shared remote learning schedules with families prior to break. If you have any questions, please reach out to your grade level teams. We look forward to connecting with you virtually on Monday, January 4th.
Welcome Dr. Diann Kearney - Interim Principal - I am excited to serve as your interim principal from January 4 until your new principal is named. Dr. Thompson, Central Area Superintendent, and I have discussed the unique timing of my appointment and how I can best support the Hunter Elementary School Community. We are both confident that together with your support, we will be able to sustain the positive energy and momentum that makes this school such a wonderful place to work and learn.
Despite the fact that my appointment falls during this unique time, I am committed to supporting students, staff, and families to make this transition as seamless as possible. My leadership experience as principal of Conn Elementary, Martin Middle, and Apex High School, has afforded me many unique opportunities including moving school campuses in preparation for renovations and reconstruction, working with staff and community to develop a new magnet theme, strengthening school culture to reduce teacher turnover, and garnering community support to promote a greater sense of identity and school pride. I consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to be part of WCPSS and am excited about this new chapter in my professional career.
If you would like to meet or have questions for me, please do not hesitate to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a message with the front office. My WCPSS email is activated and I will soon be added to the Hunter email lists. I appreciate your support in the coming months, and I look forward to working with you.
Books to Go Update - Thank you, Hunter Families for utilizing our Books-to-Go curbside library! Due to changes with the Wake County schedule, Books-to-Go services will be paused after Jan 15th. In the meantime, please utilize the Wake County Library which has an exceptional curbside library program. Learn more about it HERE or click HERE to get information on getting your child their own public library card.
Advocacy: Hunter is partnering with Ligon and Moore Square to distribute food boxes from Interfaith Food Shuttle on Fridays at Chavis Park beginning Friday, January 8th between 2:00-4:30. If your family is interested in receiving a food box, please complete the form attached here and return to school, mail to Ligon (address is on form), or bring the form with you to distribution on Friday. Please contact Kelly Gold at email@example.com if you have any questions about the forms or distribution OR if you are interested in volunteering with this program.
Cultural Arts: Be on the lookout this semester for more information regarding our Cultural Arts project in collaboration with artist, Lakeshia Reid, and in gratitude to the United Arts Council for the project grant.
The VMF is a weekly joint communication from Hunter GT / AIG Magnet Elementary and the Hunter PTA. Our VMF will be digitally shared with families on Monday and serves as a single resource for families to understand all that is happening in our school community. Archived VMFs are available on the Hunter website. Paper copies of the VMF are available by contacting the Hunter Office.
