Week of October 12th
Hunter GT / AIG Magnet Elementary School Updates
WCPSS Updates - All WCPSS Updates can be found here (https://www.wcpss.net/returntocampus.) Please note some important “Updates Regarding Re-Opening School Campuses” found here. (https://www.wcpss.net/Page/45883.)
Family Email Updates - On Tuesday of this week, all families should have received an email for each of their children confirming Virtual Academy enrollment for the remainder of first semester OR which track your child was assigned to for in person learning. If you did not receive this email, please contact our school data manager, Mary Hardy, firstname.lastname@example.org, so that we can correctly update your contact information.
Asynchronous Days / Remote Learning Days - Our school district has recently approved “asynchronous learning days” which are the same as “remote learning days.” On remote learning days, students who are scheduled to be in a school building will be home on the designated day. They will participate in virtual learning lessons and activities that have been pre-recorded by their teachers. Students who are participating in online learning will remain home, but all of their learning will be pre-recorded and none will be live on camera.
For the week of October 5th (last week) and October 12th (upcoming week,) individual schools will determine how to arrange asynchronous opportunities. Our school teams will integrate asynchronous opportunities in a way that maximises instruction, and this will be communicated to families through team weekly emails.
Beginning the week of October 26th, there will be district designated remote learning days each week (when there is not already a holiday and / or a pre-scheduled teacher workday.) These district designated remote learning days will be consistent across schools throughout the district. As soon as these days are confirmed across the district, we will share these dates with families.
Survey: Family Needs with Before and Afterschool Care - Your responses to this survey will help us to determine the logistical feasibility of onsite before and / or afterschool care. IF we are able to host onsite before and / or afterschool care at Hunter, it would be hosted and run by the Southeast Raleigh YMCA. We hope to be able to communicate with families, as soon as possible, whether or not Hunter will host on site before and / or afterschool care. Link to Survey (https://forms.gle/pjJvgDDkMKYtiRPCA) (Please complete by Monday, October 12th)
Fall Fundraiser: Keep those donations coming! Thank you to all who have donated so far to the Fall Fundraiser! We’re over halfway to our $25,000 fundraising goal. As soon as we reach our goal, you’ll stop hearing about it! We promise! You can make your donation online by clicking on the "Paypal Link" or scanning the "MemberHub Donation" QR code. If you prefer to drop cash or a check by school, please put it in an envelope labeled “Fall Fundraiser,” buzz the front door, and office staff will direct you accordingly. Any amount is greatly appreciated! Thank you for your participation!
Teacher Appreciation: Special thanks to everyone who painted rocks to show our gratitude to our amazing teachers. Another big thank you to the families that came out to help decorate the stairs on Thursday afternoon. We know the teachers loved their notes of gratitude and appreciation as they walked into school on Friday morning!
Yearbook Committee: The Yearbook Committee is still planning on making a memory book this year and would like your "Back to School" photos! Any first day pictures, virtual learning pictures, etc, would be greatly appreciated for consideration. Please email them to email@example.com. Questions or comments: email Christine Weingarten at firstname.lastname@example.org.
ONE Hunter: Dear Hunter parents, caregivers, teachers and staff: Please join us Tuesday October 20th from 6:30-7:30pm via zoom for our annual One Hunter celebration! One Hunter provides an opportunity for us to get to know our beautiful community better through meaningful small group discussions. While we sadly cannot enjoy a meal in-person together this year, we are SO grateful to Two Roosters Icecream at Person Street Plaza in Raleigh (down the block from Krispy Kreme) for hosting a fundraiser for our Teachers!!! From 12-9pm on Tuesday 10/20, head to Two Roosters, mention Hunter, and/or show them the Hunter/Two Roosters flyer below and 20% of your purchase will go to celebrate our amazing teachers. What a great day to plan a socially distanced outdoor event with another Hunter family or two!
While this year's One Hunter program will be for the adults, we will have an activity for your students and their siblings to do if they are interested! They will only need paper, pencils and markers/colored pencils. They will have the opportunity to share their beautiful work at the end of the zoom.
To keep our program safe (i.e. no zoom bombers!), we require a very quick and easy registration for all those interested in attending One Hunter. Please register here. For further inquiries, please contact Hunter PTA, Advocacy Co-Chair, Juliette Grimmett email@example.com
Once upon a time not long ago,
a fair came to school to help our children grow.
The fair was filled with books galore
Smiles and laughter and so much more!
Books for students, teachers, and all!
But how do we make it happen this fall?
Then in swoops the hero...a local bookstore
To continue a tradition we love and adore.
Read With Me Children’s Books & Art
Will host a VIRTUAL BOOK FAIR for all to take part!
November the 2nd we’ll begin the event!
As it approaches more details will be sent.
Labels & Offers: Box Tops for Education recognizes that schools are not able to have their normal collection drives this year and is allowing families to submit smaller groups of Box Tops. Here's what you need to do if you have Box Tops to submit:
1) Watch this video with instructions on how to prepare your submission: How to Submit Box Tops Clips
2) Email firstname.lastname@example.org before October 28 with your count of Box Tops so a submission form can be generated and sent back to you. You will print the submission form, include it in your package, and mail it. Make sure your package is postmarked no later than Nov 1.
3) If you are part of a Constellation group, collect Box Tops as a group. If collected by October 18, email Box Tops Coordinator at email@example.com, and she can pick up your submission and include in a larger school submission.
The VMF is a weekly joint communication from Hunter GT / AIG Magnet Elementary and the Hunter PTA. Our VMF will be digitally shared with families on Monday and serves as a single resource for families to understand all that is happening in our school community. Archived VMFs are available on the Hunter website. Paper copies of the VMF are available by contacting the Hunter Office.
