Welcome to Hunter GT/AIG Elementary Virtual Monday Folder (VMF)

School & Administration Announcements:

Open House - We are very excited to welcome all of our families to Open House on Wednesday, September 11th!  This will be a great evening of learning about the new school year, connecting with staff, and connecting with families.  We hope your family can join!

  • 5:45-6:30p: Kindergarten, 1st , & 2nd grade Open House presentations will take place in homeroom classrooms.
  • 6:45-7:10p: All Families should plan to meet in the gym for the PTA Welcome. Committee sign-up booths & Spirit Wear sales will be in the cafeteria.
  • 7:15-8:00p: 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade level presentations will be at the following locations (after the PTA Welcome concludes)
    • 3rd Grade - Cafeteria
    • 4th Grade - Media Center
    • 5th Grade - Gym

Sprout Scouts Garden Club at Camden Street - Do you have a child who loves to get their hands dirty, garden, and prepare healthy meals?  If so, the "Sprout Scouts Garden Club" is for you.  This club is free and is for students in 2nd through 5th grades.  Students will be walked over to the Camden Street learning garden afterschool, and the club lasts from 4:10 until 6:10 on Tuesdays from Sept. 24th through Nov.19th.  Check out this flyer for more information and to sign up!

Dreambox Learning - This year, Hunter students have access to DreamBox which is a digital math program.  Students will be incorporating DreamBox into their math learning at school, and this tool is also available for families to learn at home.  There are no requirements or expectations that your child use DreamBox at home, however, it is available if your family is interested in using it.  Second through fifth grade students have already been using DreamBox at school and should be familiar with the program.  Kindergarten and first grade students will learn soon.  Students can log in to DreamBox through their WCPSS Student Log in Account.  Here is a link with information about DreamBox.  All families will learn more about DreamBox as a part of Open House.

Internet Network Upgrade - On Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 9th and 10th, Hunter will be receiving a network upgrade that should increase bandwidth and connectivity -- yeah!  Our school will likely have no internet access on September 9th and 10th.  Families should be sure to send in written notes to convey important information to staff.  Phone lines will also be down for the majority of Monday, September 9th.  We thank you for your patience with this upgrade.  We will inform parents once phone lines have been restored on Monday!

Art Club: Join the after school Art Club, led by Ms. Kernan. K-5th , 3:45-4:45p. Use the sign-up link Art Club Sign-up

Morning Clubs: Morning Activity Clubs start Sept 9th. Meet by the gym; 8:30a-9:00a.  Waiver must be completed before joining.  Morning Club Permission Form

PTA Updates:

PTA Membership:  Hunter's PTA Membership drive is still going strong, and we'd love to increase our membership by 3% this year! Encourage your spouse or caregivers to join us this year! Membership starts at $7 per person (donations accepted), and scholarships are available, email hunterelementaryschoolpta@gmail.com. You may complete the yellow form in your child’s Monday Folder or if you prefer, you can join online at http://hunter.memberhub.store. We welcome everyone! #rethinkpta #hunterptarocks

Car Magnets: PTA car magnets for those who have requested them will be sent home via Monday Folder on 10/1.

Volunteer Coordination: Did you know that the Hunter PTA has over TWENTY different committees, each with its own events and activities?  With so many different PTA-sponsored initiatives, it is easy to feel overwhelmed.  How can you decide which is a good fit for you?  Use Volunteer Information Form to let us know what interests you and your availability, and we will help you get connected!  If you have any questions, contact Beth Carmichael at bessie628@gmail.com

Teacher Appreciation: Throughout the school year, we will be highlighting members of our amazing staff each month. This week, on Tuesday, Sept. 10th, we will celebrate our main classroom teachers. Please have your child send a note of gratitude that day to their homeroom teacher. On Tuesday, Sept. 17th, we will celebrate Teacher Assistants! We are thankful for all that our teachers and T.A.’s do!

Chess Club: Chess Club is ready to start a new year of having fun, learning and playing lots of chess! Our first meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 3:45 to 4:45 pm. If you would like to register for this year's chess club, please fill out our registration form (http://bit.ly/HunterChess2019) and submit Chess Club dues to the front desk in the Hunter main office no later than Sept. 20. To learn more, read about us in the PTA Supported Clubs section of the Hunter website, email Calixta Solano at calixtasolano@gmail.com, or visit our table at the Hunter Open House on Sept. 11.

Radical Readers: This is the last week to turn in your Radical Reader forms. We want as many students as possible to be a part of our celebration on Friday, Sept. 27th. Please turn your form into your teacher ASAP! As a reminder, Radical Reader is open to everyone, K - 5. Need another form? Print it here

Labels & Offers: Send in Box Tops by Sept. 27!  Over the summer, the Box Tops in Education program began transitioning to digital Box Tops (more on that below), but we can still send in traditional clipped Box Tops too. Please send in all of your unexpired Box Tops to school by Sept.27.

Digital Box Tops:If you haven't already, download the new Box Tops app so that you can also collect digital Box Tops for Hunter. Use the Box Tops app to scan your store receipt within 14 days of purchase. The app will automatically find Box Tops and add them to Hunter's earnings. See the reward links: Hunter Label and Offers Flyer or email Eliza Kiser (kisereliza@gmail.com) or Jennifer Humphries (jessicaraeh@yahoo.com)

Where's the bus? Track it! Now up and running for new Kindergarten families! WCPSS bus-rider families may use a free live-GPS app called Here Comes the Bus which allows you to see where the bus is and how close it is to your stop. Sign up online at the link above, or download the app for your smartphone or tablet from the App Store or Google Play. You will need a valid email address, the WCPSS district code (67500), and your student’s ID number to sign up.
