On September 17, 2019, the NC Department of Justice(NCDOJ) representative, Mercedes Klem, Assistant Attorney General of North Carolina presented a workshop on Internet Safety. Participants exited the workshop with five tips suggested by the NCDOJ to help children be safe online: (1) Ask the question: Is your child ready? Consider your child's age and maturity level before allowing them to join a social networking website or download apps. (2) Communicate-Create a set of rules for internet usage. Talk about the risks. (3) Educate- Teach your child good standards for internet behavior. (4) Monitor- Review the websites and apps your child uses. Make sure you have a copy of all their passwords. (5) Be Involved- Turn on parental controls and privacy features.
We thank the NCDOJ for providing this information to our community.
