Dear Green Elementary Families,
Welcome to all our new Green Elementary School families and greetings to all returning family members! We hope everyone has had a restful and happy summer break. We are all looking forward to a great year of learning together for 2021-2022. This letter will give you some important information for getting started this school year.

School Regular Hours: 9:15am – 4:00pm
YMCA Daycare: 7:00am – 8:45am
4:00pm – 6:00pm (school gym – must pay fee- contact Finley YMCA @ 919-845-3830)
School Opens for students: 8:45am; tardy bell at 9:15am (arrival after 9:15 will require sign by parent in office)
Early Check out: 3:45pm any student checking out early for appointments etc. must be checked out before 3:45pm
School Ends for students: 4:00pm

**For transportation questions after 4:30, please contact Transportation Office.
For First Quarter, building access will be for STAFF AND STUDENTS ONLY. We will not be engaging volunteers in the building for the first quarter of the school year. We will evaluate at the end of first quarter and hopefully be able to fully resume our volunteer operations in Oct/Nov. Thank you for continuing to support our efforts with safety and risk reduction for children.
Parents say goodbye to their students at the front door. Parents do not enter the building during arrival or dismissal. This is for safety and is the result of a security audit completed last year. Thank you for your compliance.

As we start the school year, we will continue to do SIGN IN and SIGN OUT at the front door of the building. You must have a photo ID with you to sign out a student. If someone else is picking up your child, their name must match their ID AND they must be included by the parent on the STUDENT INFORMATION CARD. Parents must complete a new STUDENT INFORMATION CARD each school year.
ENTRANCE TO THE SCHOOL IS FROM SNELLING ROAD ENTRANCE ON THE FAR SIDE OF CAMPUS – NOT SIX FORKS ROAD. USE THE DOOR NEAREST THE FLAG POLES FOR ENTRY.
BUS STOP INFO
Bus stop information is available via the parent portal on Powerschool. If you do not have a parent account for POWERSCHOOL, contact our data manager, Maggy Krahe (firstname.lastname@example.org), for information on how to sign up for parent access. We also send bus departure info on Twitter using @GreenESBuses.
Carpool students should be picked up no later than 4:20pm. Students picked up in carpool after 4:20pm must be signed out in the office. Please make arrangements ahead of time for your child to be picked up if an emergency arises. Make these contingency plans in advance!
Note the carpool line starts at the cul-de-sac on Snelling Drive and will take you to the back of the campus and circle you around to the front. Follow the signs and this will alleviate back up traffic onto Six Forks Road. Thanks for your help. Please do not block entrance/exit to the parking lots along the service road. Please be courteous to all and always follow the directions and requests of Green Elementary staff. SLOW DOWN when driving on campus.
Visitor parking is located in spaces in the front of the cafeteria on this campus. Turn left into the visitor lane for parking. THIS IS NOT PARKING FOR CARPOOL. There is only one path in and one path out. If you park here during carpool hours you will be stuck in the lot. Carpool hours are 8:45am – 9:15am and 4:00 – 4:20pm each day.
Classroom supply lists will be located on our school website – scroll down the opening page. We will update them as new information comes in from teams over the summer. Please check on the Wake County Schools website for important district-wide dates: http://greenes.wcpss.net.
Student Meal Costs 2021-2022
School meals are FREE for all children during 2021-2022. However, there may be instances when your child will have to pay an al-a-carte price for items. For example, when purchasing just a milk to drink with lunch from home. Federal rules and guidelines must be followed in these instances, so thank you in advance for your understanding and compliance. For the 2021-22 school year, meals are free for all children (18 years of age and younger). Meal Charges Policy. In the event that a student is unable to pay for a meal on a particular day, the student may charge a reimbursable meal so long as it does not create a negative account balance that exceeds the value of three (3) days of meals (breakfast and lunch) based on current student meal prices.
Staggered entry will take place during the first week of school Aug 23-27. Your child will attend school on only ONE day this week. A postcard will be mailed to your home address of record in early August to let you know which day your child will attend. Kindergarten teachers will assess students during these days and will call you on Friday to let you know to which teacher your student has been assigned. First Full day of Kindergarten for all students is Monday, August 30, 2021.
MEET THE TEACHER
Meet the Teacher will be held in the building on Thursday, August 19 and will be STAGGERED by grade level. If you have students in different grade levels, please plan to arrive toward the end of one block of time and stay for the beginning of the next block of time. Schedule below:
K, 2nd, 4th grades 8:00 – 9:00
1st, 3rd, 5th grades 9:00 – 10:00
***MASKS REQUIRED FOR ALL: Times will be strictly recognized.
Please be sure that we have updated telephone numbers and a valid email address for your family. We send real time updates, messages, and other important information via school messenger, twitter, and on the web site.
Teachers will use Talking Points as the official texting app to communicate with parents. Please respond if you get a message from your child’s teacher. Thank you.
Principal Advisory Committee
This meeting is held periodically throughout the year to give parents a chance for a small group, conversation style meeting with the Principal to discuss upcoming events and to get updates on our programs here at Green. Please see the dates for these meetings on the attached Important Dates list.
